As I can see, such articles are getting very popular in the current pandemic situation. I've never heard the 'biophilic' word but I have to admit that this is not the first time I hear about the good influence of plants in the workplace. To be honest as a man, I’ve never paid much attention to plants especially surrounding my computer where I work mostly in my job or at home. Maybe in the future, I’ll try to have something ‘green’ in places where I work but as for now, there are two main factors which are the most important for me. Firstly, I need to have a comfortable chair which is also safe for my back and secondly, as I work on a computer, I always try to avoid any reflections which can be seen on the screen.
It's interesting how plants can benefit our health. You could say that implementing plants in workspace could be an investment from employer point of view, boosting the productivity and helping with stress of other workers. If it comes to my work space most important thing for me is comfy chair. My job is mainly computer work, so I often spend many hours sitting in one place. without a comfortable chair, the work would be much more difficult and could cause back pain and other spine problems. Another important part is monitor itself, after all I look at it for hours. It's for the monitor to have a blue light filter and a stand that allows user to change its inclination and height, thanks to that I can adjust it to my height and posture.
I completely agree that plants may have a good influence on our health and home atmosphere but I didn't know that it may be called 'biophilic design'. I tried to make my workspace at home more comfy by setting pot plants on my desk... unfortunately my cat looooved this idea and bit almost every leaf of my plants! Happily I chose cat-safe ones (just in case) ;) In my opinion one of the most important thing if you work mostly on computer is a comfortable chair that protects us from back aches and a desk which is properly high. In addition we must remember about short 'walks' at least once an hour during work.
I enjoyed reading this article. I have not heard this term before, although I've read several articles on the Internet about the new form of interior design for office buildings. I'm very happy that business owners are moving away from plastic boxes for employees, and in return give them plants and a functional, pleasant design!
I work remotely and I really care about my surroundings. Plants and cleanliness are essential to me, but I also like lighting candles and playing music in the background. I don't like curtains on the windows. Fortunately, I live on the 11th floor and instead of watching the hangings, I can enjoy the sky.
Recently, I also introduced an air humidifier to my apartment. Once I read that in Japan it's a must-have equipment both at home and in workplaces. It has a positive effect on the respiratory system, skin and eyes! Especially during the heating season.
This is an article about me 😂 I really like taking care of plants and I have a lot of them in my apartment (about 70 pots and still counting) all around my workplace ☺️ I've never heard of it being called 'biophilic design'. But as far as this article is concerned, im 100% Biophilic designer 😂 Having plants all around my space is calming me and makes me happy. The only problem - sometimes it distracts me eg. when I see a dry leaf I start to look after the plant instead of working. But in general an indoor jungle is a must-have these days.
I find this article quite interesting, although I don't have any plants around my desk. I like the way others care about their potted flowers, I like the way they (plants :)) look and smell but those are not enough to make me have any of them. I just do not like to work with flowers around my apartment, what is interesting, I like my plants and trees in the garden, what is more, I have some vegetables around my terrace. Coming back to my work space, I just see it well organised, everything has its own place. As for bringing nature inside, I prefer natural wood. I love wooden tables, kitchen utensils or natural wooden floors. All these wooden parts in my apartment or work space make me calm.
This article is worthwhile, very interesting and insightful. Because of my education I know very well the healing properties of plants. I love plants, not only at home but also outside! I take care of several species at home and I keep my eye on them. The plants have a soothing effect on me for sure! At autumn evening I like to make myself a good tea, light a candle and essential oils, I love lavender the most. I have several species in my surroundings, additionally my apartment is extended by a balcony, where I have arranged the space mostly by plants. Ah if I only had more space in my apartment... Well, my dream is to have a small house with a large garden with a lot of plants :)
I think the article presents an interesting look at the relationship between nature and man. In times of this pandemic, most of us try to spend as much time as possible within our four walls, so we miss the presence of all the elements that remain outside. When it comes to the positive effects of being surrounded by plants, I cannot deny it - from their basic oxygen-producing trait to serving as beautiful decorations, there are no negatives here. Personally, I can't imagine my room without three sizeable wingflowers, which add some color to the room and make me feel calmer. Also, wingflowers are known primarily for their very good air filtration. When it comes to my work space, the most important things for me are: comfort and peace. A comfortable armchair, a suitable desk, two monitors - all this to help me work effectively and healthy.
I've never heard about the word like "biophilic". To be honest I don't care much about plants inside the house, more important for me is working near the window while I'm at the home office and to have green views of thru windows mentioned above. For example, my aunt has more than twenty plants in every room I believe. It's more like walking in some nature park than walking at home, but. I have to admit, spending time near so many plants provides more pleasure than sitting in an empty room. When I read this article for the first time, I made a decision to give it a try. yesterday I bought two cactuses for my desk and one philodendron which is next to my chair right now. Maybe work starting from Monday will be nicer ;) On the other hand, for me comfortable chair set up at the right height and monitor with good quality and reflection which doesn't make our eyes more exhausted are the most important things that provide high-quality work while the home office.
It is a first time for me to hear about biophilic but after reading this article, I wish I could take care of plants. Unfortunately every plant I had died, even the succulent ones which don't need a lot of attention. I have to admit that nature designs look amazing and I really admire people who can create their own environment with plants. I've never worked in a place which was created like this but it sounds really calming and nice. My work space at home is pretty simple, it includes a chair with a desk in a common room and maybe that is my problem with lack of ambitions to work. :D
This is very intresting article and reading it was pure pleasure. Even though I absolutely adore plants and my plants collection is still getting bigger, I hadn't heard about 'biophilic' design. I do belive that calm and stress-reducing surroding can enhance our workflow. My home workspace is pretty basic and I want to keep it simple, but adding a few more pots wouldn't hurt.
I personally don't think that plants in workspace could make such difference. I've working in rooms with a lot of plants and without of them and I didn't notice any difference. But if it's helping people, I don't mind it as long they not trying to convince me that's only and right path :) As for me I just need a good chair, comfortable keyboard and noise cancelling headphones to work with maximum efficiency.
Like most of the course participants, I haven't heard of this term before, although I read about the different benefits of houseplants. I don't have plants in my apartment yet, but my parents have them in almost every room. Recently I read about one very interesting experiment in China, in one of the cities (it seems even in the one where the covid appeared) they built a residential complex with many plants. A special building facade and large balconies to accommodate a lot of plants. But unfortunately, the idea failed with a collapse, during the planning they made several critical mistakes, one of them in the choice of plants. As a result of which, a huge number of mosquitoes and other insects were brought in, which made life in apartments impossible... sadly. I would love to live in a house like this but without mosquitoes :)
I like this idea very much even though I don’t have many plants in my apartment. It’s good to know there are that many positive influence of keeping house plants. It motivates me to start again to fill my interiors with few of them as I dried again my plants while I was away for couple of weeks for summer holidays. I guess frequent travels are one of main obstacles for me because it’s difficult to plan keep plants alive.
I actually do not pay enough attention to improving my workspace at home. However now as I’ve read the article and found out about all those benefits of biophilic design I am considering changing my work environment. There is one more thing I need to mention that is quite related to this topic area and it is the way my sister’s apartment is furnished and the way she lives. She has got a lot of plants and candles all over the apartment, she’s using the essential oils diffusor and basically her place looks so warm and cozy. One day I had to work remotely from her home, because of the renovations at my place and somehow it was much better for me to focus on my job there. Until today I thought it was only because I simply changed the surroundings, but now I know it was because the surroundings were just very conducive. In comparison to me and my passive way of life, my sister is always positive and has got a lot of energy, even though she doesn’t drink coffee at all! I assume it’s a lifestyle at this point but seeing all the benefits that follows it I think I should at least try it.
Indoor flowers are the oldest way to decorate the interior, allowing you to give it an individuality, but until recently almost the only place at home to place plants was the windowsills. The modern interior has become more active in using indoor plants, not only as an ornamental tool, but also as a tool for dividing rooms, emphasizing winning details, hiding shortcomings. They also help to create more ‘fresh’ and cozy atmosphere, especially in nowadays quarantine life. Unfortunately, I don't have plants at my home, for now I just don’t have time to care about the plants, but I believe that someday my apartment will be whole of plants. I have friends who have a lot of plants, and when I come to visit them, I feel very comfortable and relaxed.
I've never heard the term 'biophilic' before, but I think it refers to me :) My workspace is full of plants. I have 4 ferns and 15 ivys. I believe that being close to nature helps a lot, not only at work but in everyday life. It has a de-stressing effect, cleans the air and looks quite nice. I believe that especially now, when we spend most of our time at home, it is very important to feel comfortable within your four walls.
