Week 2 [3-8.04.2018] My (short) coffee adventure

I do not know about you, but I started to drink coffee when I went to college. Yes, I know it's late but better late than never. You can say that studies forced me to do that. I had to learn a lot and spend my nights with books. So I needed more coffee.
The adventure began with soluble coffee, because only such coffee was at home. There are many sources informing that we should not drink something like that, and I think we’re aware of it just like we should not drink Coca-Cola.
After some time I found an old coffee percolator at home like in the picture below.

So I started to use it. I ground coffee and put it into a container. It was the worst ever coffee in my life, because the beans were bad.
When it comes to coffee beans, there are two main types: arabica and robusta. The first one is mild and flavorful. Sometimes you can even taste the taste of chocolate. The second one has more caffeine and that would be enough when it comes to its benefits. It has a bitter and sharp taste. Obviously everything is a matter of taste ;)
After the coffee percolator, the time has come for the espresso machine. Due to the fact that I did not want to spend too much, I chose one of the delonghi models.

It does not have a grinder, so coffee must be ground in another device. But when it comes to the taste of coffee, I'm honestly happy. Of course it is easier to make a coffee in a machine which makes coffee itself. But these are more expensive and not very configurable. The last and the newest thing I have when it comes to coffee is AeroPress.

It uses alternative coffee brewing methods. It looks like a piece of plastic, which is actually true, but fortunately is BPA free. It costs a little over 100PLN, so it is even a reasonable price. However, this machine in combination with the right coffee does the job. It is best to look for coffee for overflow coffee. Roasting should be lighter than for espresso. And what is the most important, you should choose specialty coffee. Unfortunately, this coffee is more expensive, but it also has many advantages. One of them is that it is healthier and of course tastier.

  2. I also like tea much more :) I don't know why, but I don't feel coffee to be such a wonderful drink, as many people do so. When I taste a coffee, usually it is bitter and not tasty drink at all. Altough there were few times I had an occasion to dring quite tasty coffee, but still those did not overcome magnificience of tea ;P But it is only my subjective opinion.
Anyway I drink coffee from time to time, mainly for its stimulative factor. But honestly, sometimes I have an impression that it makes me more sleepy, than before drinking it :D
Answering to the rest of the questions, I haven't tried such coffee yet. I haven't heard aboutl speciality coffees also, but when I looked before a moment it seemed tempting to me, therefore maybe I will give coffee yet more chance to satisfy my by its taste :)

How often do you drink coffee?
-During the week one per day. Generally at 8am. Just to start the day.

    – I find many kinds of coffee to be tasteful. Generally speaking it would be arabica with low acidity.

How often do you drink coffee?
    – Everyday :) It's kind of my addiction and my morning daily routine. Sometimes I even drink coffee twice a day.

Have you ever tried overflow coffee?
    – Yes, I have. It taste great and sometime in the future I must supply myself with coffee maker to be able to drink such a coffee everyday at home.

Have you ever heard of specialty coffees?
No, I have never heard about such a coffee. Despite being coffee addict I don't spend much time searching for new tastes. I have found the coffee that is good enough for me and I'm not looking for a new one.

How often do you drink coffee?
usually is 1 or 2 cups per day. One in the morning to wake me up and one after lunch to have some energy and for the taste.

Have you ever tried overflow coffee?
No, but it sounds good. I usually make the cheap one, don't really see the difference.

Have you ever heard of specialty coffees?
No, looked at it and it seems interesting. Maybe I will try it one day.

I am not a coffee enthusiast and I don’t even remember their names so I can’t really tell which one is my favourite. However I can tell that they all feel a bit too bitter for me ;)

How often do you drink coffee?
Once in a blue moon. I prefer tea.

Have you ever tried overflow coffee?
No but maybe someday I will have a chance to do so.

Have you ever heard of specialty coffees?
Not really. The only coffees I heard about are latte, espresso and americano :)

  8. 1. What coffee tastes you the most?
I have a Tchibo coffee maker for capsules at home. I often drink coffee from these capsules. When they are used up, I empty them and pour in another ground coffee there. I like Sati coffee with vanilla flavor the most.

    2. How often do you drink coffee?
It's not entirely true that drinking coffee is unhealthy. This too large dose makes the poison, and so it is with everything. Even drinking too much water can hurt us;) Coming back to the topic, drinking one coffee a day should not hurt us, and is even beneficial to our liver. However, we should not drink coffee with milk, and most people like it this way. Also you should use freshly ground coffee and not soluble one. I currently drink one coffee per day. There are also days when I do not drink coffee at all.

    3. Have you ever tried overflow coffee?
Yes, I tried, but it did not like the taste.

    4. Have you ever heard of specialty coffees?
I’ve heard about Black Ivory Coffee, which is less bitter because of unique production method.

  9. I like americano coffee. Espresso is too intensive in taste for me so americano is the best balance. I used to drink coffee with a milk but one day I realised how the taste is so different when you drink without a milk. I started practice to drink only coffee and till today I drink in that way, the best way. When we add a milk to a cup of coffee we do something bad for the taste. Actually there is no way to tell about anyhow taste. I drink coffee everyday, sometimes a few times in a day. Do you think it too much? There are days when I can’t tell stop to myself and stop drink coffee. In overall it’s so addictive. I’ve tried overflow coffee and it was the best. I like coffee from overflow expres where I can prepare a drink full automatically. No, I haven’t heard about specialty coffees. I’m very traditional, so when I want to drink some coffee I look for traditional tastes.

  10. I don't drink coffee at all. As it turns out, it is possible to live without it!
I have zero knowledge about coffee types, their tastes and differences between them. I'm not proud to admit that I don't even know how to use a coffee maker that we have in our office kitchen. :) I don't feel like I was missing anything, even though I don't drink tea, as well.
Since we are on the topic of coffee, @Rafał, have you heard about a judge in California who, after a very long trial, has ruled that the state law requires coffee companies to inform their clients that drinking coffee can increase a risk of cancer? It's an interesting case. I wonder what will hapen next. Will there be warnings similar to those put on the cigarette packs on the coffee packages ?

    1. Yes I know about coffee problem in California. But toasted bread has more carcinogenic ingredients ;)

  11. The first question is hard to answer by me because I’m not a huge fan of coffee. But if situation forces me to drink a cup of this energizing drink I’m always choosing option which contains a milk and lot of a sugar. I’m drink coffee as often as I must do a lot of things in brief period right before deadline. That means not so often because I always trying to organise my tasks to be relaxed about everything. In case of overflow coffee, I have never tried it. If I don’t like coffee so much I’m not in a need of experimenting with several types of it. And yes, I heard about specialty coffee thanks to a huge representation of a coffee followers everywhere around me. I’m more "tea type of person" but it's impossible to avoid coffee talks :)

  12. I'm not a fan of drinking coffee. Coffee removes magnesium and vitamins from the body. As a result, I used to have muscle cramps and problems with concentration. I replaced coffee with yerba mate. It stimulates the body is a completely different manner and has a longer lasting effect. Of course, the coffee is better in taste. I like my coffee with milk and sugar. I only drink coffee on the weekends or when when I run out of my tea supply.
I'm not a coffee gourmet – I drink the types of coffee you can find in popular stores. I've never had a special coffee as brewed by a professional barista, but maybe I'll give it a go one day.

  13. I've got coffee grinder for my last birthday and it had some interesting stock of coffee grains attached. Best of them was: Nicaragua Las Flores Woman Project and I recomend everyone to try it.
I love whole process of preparing coffee, grind the grains, wait for percolator to boil.. and taste my coffee slowly afterwards. It's my favorite way to start a day.

  14. I like coffee, but is not love. yet. In my office we tested many types of coffee. However I did not see any differences. I prefer coffee in automatic coffee machine. It is very simple and I drink dwo-three cup of coffee in each office days.
I readed many articles about unplugged coffee markers. I'm thinking about buying some grinder and areopress for my kitchen. I am very lazy in morning. Probably I will prefer fast driving to my office and usage automatic machine than making coffee with areopress supporting.

  15. 1. What coffee tastes you the most?

After the visit in Serbia, coffee that tastes the best is very finely ground, almost like powdered sugar. Brewed in so colled 'dżezwa'

How often do you drink coffee?

I drink coffee every day mainly at work. At the weekend I like to grind and brew the aforementioned coffee.

Have you ever tried overflow coffee?

Yes, we have this kind of express coffee at work and it performs very well. I also tried coffee from so-called chemex, it's just as good, just more 'hipsterish' ;)

Have you ever heard of specialty coffees?

I think Kopi luwak is the most 'specialist' coffee I've ever heard of. I would like to test it, but there are a lot of fakes on the popular auction site. If you know where to find the original, let me know :)

The one in my company - Lavazza (arabica), freshly grinded from a very nice coffe machine.

How often do you drink coffee?

I'm drinking approximately 3 coffes per day. I know it's a high amount but I love coffee!

Have you ever tried overflow coffee?

Yes one time in one of the cafe's in the center of Warsaw. It was nice but the taste was less intense in comparsion to the "normal" coffee.

Have you ever heard of specialty coffees?

Yes I heard of it - I drunk coffee from AeroPress in one of the Warsaw cafe's - Stor, also a overflow coffee and drip coffee. But I don't know why but I make the best coffee by myself. It tastes me the most
