Beekeeping
I would
like to share with you my thoughts on the fascinating topic of beekeeping. Few
years ago my uncle found himself very engaged in the matter of beekeeping. He
wanted to create a space for bees in two places, one of which was the field by
his house and the other one was the backyard of my house. To turn the idea into
reality, he started with buying all the necessary equipment, such as beehives,
frames, smoker, suit and of course bees and the queen. After a few months of
gaining the experience, he finally was satisfied with all the work he had done.
Beekeeping has become his favourite hobby since then and now he devotes all his
free time to this passion.
Beekeeping
is not only a leisure activity, but also a good source of additional income. If
you run organic production the products you obtain can be super valuable. It
requires specific conditions, however honey obtained using organic methods is
much more valuable, than the one made from sugar. Some types of healthy honey
include: Acacia Honey, Buckwheat Honey, Linden Honey, Multiflower Honey. Another
advantage of having a hive, besides honey of course, is the opportunity to
collect different healthy products like bee pollen or propolis. You can add
them to yogurt for breakfast and they contain a lot of vitamins and nutritional
values. I really recommend trying to switch up from sugar in your kitchen to
organic honey. It gives you nothing more, but benefits for your health. And it
tastes so good!
Below and above are represented pictures of beehives near my house:
Here you
can listen to a podcast and read about a man who found the activity of
beekeeping healing:
Questions:
1.
Do you find beekeeping interesting? Would you
consider it as a hobby?
2.
Do you like consuming honey? If yes, which type
is your favourite?
3.
Do you somehow contribute to climate change for
the better? What do you do to make the environment gain and not lose?

1. I have to say, you've raised a subject very close to my heart. Unfortunately, now I don't have as much in common with this topic as I used to have in my childhood. My family twin house is part of those multigenerational, my great-grandfather, who was a beekeeper, lived in a twin house and there were 45 beehives in our garden! Can you imagine? I don't know if you've ever seen such huge apiaries, but it always impressed me. My fascination with bees and my desire to help them I have placed on my terrace, it is a special drinker for bees - all you need is a pot stand filled with stones and water, so bees won't drown and can sit on the stones.
ReplyDelete2. Of course! I love honey and it’s derivatives. I like rapeseed honey the most and I reach for it most often, but I also appreciate buckwheat honey, furthermore, every morning I drink a solution made from bee pollen, it is for better resistance - I recommend it for sure! If you are interested in this topic, I will tell you my recipe
3. In topic of supporting the environment, I try to save water and electricity in order to generate as little consumption as possible. Contributing to the improvement of the climate, I also segregate wastes, and I store organic parts and thake to the countryside for feeding my friends pigs.

ReplyDeleteMy goal for this summer: bee breeding! I have already bought a beehive. The hive is already waiting for bees in my summer house (I will buy bees in this month). This seems to be a great hobby. And finally I will have a pet (I'm allergic to cats and dogs). In addition, it will be useful in research - I want to design an application that will help in breeding bees. Do you think such an application will be useful for beekeepers like your uncle?
ReplyDeleteI am very happy that the topic of bees and honey has appeared on the blog! Beekeeping seems to be very relaxing hobby and bringing a lot of satisfaction. Three years ago in the Polish mountains, I visited an apiary with lots of hives. Beekeeper explained the whole process to me and my family. The honey was delicious, but the orange blossom honey I ate in Spain is definitely my unbeatable favorite. I brought home two big jars, giving up other souvenirs, haha. đ The climate impact of bees is also very important to me. For several years I regularly paid money for pollinating insects and I was very happy when houses for these insects began to appear in Warsaw. I believe that hives could also be on the roofs of blocks... or better whole gardens! đž
ReplyDeleteDo you find beekeeping interesting?
ReplyDeleteI don't know why and I couldn't explain it but somehow yes :D
Would you consider it as a hobby?
I even thought about it some time ago but rather as a business rather than hobby considering that in few years we might suffer because lack of bees.
Do you like consuming honey? If yes, which type is your favourite?
I'm using it as a sugar replacement so whenever I get a feeling for something sweet I'm trying to stick with multi-flower one. On the other hand I'm consuming a jar yearly so I'm not an expert in the topic.
Do you somehow contribute to climate change for the better? What do you do to make the environment gain and not lose?
I'm trying to saving energy, segregate trashes and eat less meat - the last one might not be so obvious but it's highly connected to environment pollution.
Beekeeping doesn’t sound interesting for me but from its description, I’m one hundred percent sure that it may be for others. I’m also sure that it’s very significant and necessary for the whole world to gather honey so we need beekeepers. Although I don’t find it interesting as a job, I think that it may be pretty interesting as a hobby in my free time.
ReplyDeleteI like to eat honey with bread or to sweeten my tea with it but to be honest I’m not sure what type is it.
I can’t say that I contribute to climate change for the better on purpose but for sure I help it a little because all my cars are equipped with LPG installation which creates less air pollution.
I find beekeeping an interesting topic. I've seen beehives many times visiting my grandparents as a child. Frankly, I've never seen them from close range, probably bacause of fear.
ReplyDeleteI try to use a lot of honey in my kitchen, mainly as a replacement of a white sugar. My favourite kind of honey is rapeseed honey, it's delicious
I think beekeeping is very interesting! If I had time and place for this I would love to be a beekeeper! I am trying try to eat healthy therefore I know that honey in the supermarket is actually unhealthy, for it’s made out of sugar. But to sum it up, I think beekeeping can be a hobby. I think it must be very relaxing, and also, it gives you a lot of delicious, healthy honey
ReplyDeleteI like to eat honey. This is a good alternative to sugar. When I am sick I add honey to each drink, but I know it should be added when the water is not too hot, because then it loses it’s properties. I don’t have favourite one, for every type of honey is delicious!
I try many things. I segregate trash, use cotton shopping bags. Also I try not to eat meat. I’m glad that people nowadays have much bigger awareness.
Honestly for me Beekeeping seems to be an extremely demanding
ReplyDeleteand risky business. To me bees appear also a insects, as they
bite or can even be a threat to an allergic person.
I don't quite get how breeding bees could be relaxing, as you
constantly have to watch, that nothing is biting you. I do
understand, that you can make realy good organic products from
honey. For example raw honey acts as a delicious natural syrup-style
sweetener, but it also has quite a few health benefits.Besides from that it also has antibacterial properties. It can also help with healthy weight loss.
I do contribute to climate change, recently I bought a scooter, which is pretty eco-friedly.
Lukasz, bees do not bite, if they are not attacked - they do not bite for no reason. You shouldn't be afraid of them. Wasps usually bite for no reason and it may be dangerous.
DeleteIt used to be insanely boring - you go and collect honey. Now that I know what it is used for and after your article I see how much knowledge is needed to make it work properly. How many factors affect honey itself, its quality and the bees themselves. In addition, beekeeping is extremely important now. Adding a brick in the form of a bee house is extremely important and helpful for the environment.
ReplyDeleteSure I like honey - it's sweet. I don't know what type I eat, because honey is usually added to meals by my girlfriend, usually to desserts or sweet dishes. Recently, we've had honeydew honey, which I've heard is very healthy, but it doesn't look good (there is no beautiful golden color).
Me and my household members are trying to support the environment. Every day we went to work by public transport, we segregate garbage. We have recently planted a flower meadow, because we read that they are better in drought than "beautiful lawns". We drink water from a jug in which we filter it, we do not buy water in plastic bottles. We have a composter, to which we throw away some garbage (peels, cut grass). In general, we try to implement good practices, so as soon as we read about one we will try to implement it at home.
Since I was a child I was on war path with bees and currently I'm not looking for peace. I see that a lot of people may find it very interesting hobby but I've always kept myself far from this and I'm happy with that decision.
ReplyDeleteI've never got into topics like honey as well. There was always jar with honey in my house but that's all I know about it.
Regarding climate change I'm trying to improve my daily behaviours such as segregation, trying to avoid eating meat which production is too valuable and using my e-scooter or bike instead of car when it's possible.
1. I am honestly a little afraid that I am allergic to bee bites (childhood trauma) so I stay away.. When I go to my friend beekeeper I'm waiting in the car till my grandparents back. I admire your uncle's courage and love of bees but I don't see myself as a beekeeper at the moment. Maybe in future because I love nature!
ReplyDelete2. I like it much but I can't consume it too much because I have strong anaphylactic reactions when I eat a large amount of honey :( I have specially prepared honey for myself by a beekeeper, but I am still allergic when using it too much.. ¯\_(ă)_/¯
3. This is good news, that quarantine is bee-friendly.
When it comes to take care of the climate. If it's possible to change car for bike or public transport - I do that. I try to avoid buying in plastic packaging (it is more difficult nowadays). I took showers than taking a bath. I have a reusable drink bottle.
1. Actually my cousin is a beekeeper and has around thirty hives so I have been around this subject since I can recall. This is demanding hobby so if you don't have passion for it, it will be hard. It can be also really a good businsess and people can live only from beekeeping from what I know.
ReplyDelete2. I think my favourite is acacia honey.
3. I try to not waste food at all. When I cook, I always calculate the portions so It won't go into trash. I also try to put plastic into seperate trash.
I like to eat honey, but I wouldn't feel like beekeeping every day. I just find other things more interesting. Although I must admit that it certainly deepens contact with nature. I like many types of honey, but probably the most buckwheat and honeydew. Maybe it's also a matter of color. The dark ones look much more tempting to me than the light ones.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to environmental protection, I try to minimize the use of plastic and segregate waste.
I am not interested in beekeeping, but I love honey and I think this is a very good hobby! In addition, it is a hobby that can be profitable not only money but also good for the environment. My favorite is linden honey, and it adds to very different dishes, starting from porridge to breakfast and ending with salmon sauce. And if I don't have anything sweet, a teaspoon of honey does everything. When it comes to the environment, it segregates garbage and sow honey plants on the balcony.
ReplyDeleteNice topic, yesterday I saw on Facebook article or advertisement “build your own beehives”. Sorry, I didn’t check it. Honestly, I don’t think this is for me. Managing such bee village sound very responsible and time consuming. So maybe when I will be old guy I will consider this as my hobby. I like honey, every type. My favorite is this one which is already in my tea.
ReplyDeleteI segregate rubbish and I’m not buying plastic bags at all.
Personally, I don't find beekeeping interesting. However, if someone likes it, that's great. Such hobbies are two in one because they contribute to the good of the environment. My grandfather used to have several beehives few years ago. Now when he is a bit older, he has returned to this hobby and it gives him a lot of joy.
ReplyDeleteYes, I like honey, but I usually buy the biggest jars, which makes me forget what type I liked better before I finish my current jar.
For the good of the environment, I avoid plastic bags and do many other simple things that literally anyone can do.
Do you find beekeeping interesting? Would you consider it as a hobby?
ReplyDeleteI find beekeeping interesting as much as necessary for environment. Because of requiring specific conditions, I can't consider beekeeping as my hobby. Unfortuntely I can't provide any place for beehive - but if I lived out of town... who knows ;)
Do you like consuming honey? If yes, which type is your favourite?
Honey is one of my most favourite sweeteners. I use honey every time during making an oatmeal. If you enjoy sweet coffee, I recommend replace sugar with honey - especially a cappuccino.
My favourite type is heather honey and multiflower honey. I also like lime honey mixed with lyophilized raspberries - it's delicious :)
Do you somehow contribute to climate change for the better?
What do you do to make the environment gain and not lose?
First of all I try to reduce my plastic usage. I go shopping with my linen bags which can be re-used. I replace cosmetics with plasting packing to paper packaging step by step - I also try to use a ' cube shampoo ' (just like soap) instead of traitional soap. I recommend products like this, because they last longer.
I think beekeeping is quite interesting but I believe it's not for everyone and shouldn't be done everywhere, like many other hobbies. Bees are surely very important but can also be irritating for local people and there are some scientists who believe that bees bred by humans may be harmful for natural population.
ReplyDeleteI love honey and use it as a sweetener very often but to be honest I don't pay that much attention to the type. Few months ago I even ordered few jars of "colorful" honey but I still forgot what were it made of.
I try not to cause pollution but I don't think I do anything in particular besides saving electricity, water and sorting trash. I just avoid doing unnecessary things that are more or less harmful for environment.
To be honest, I have never been intrested in beekeeping, for me it's a kind of farming and I'm more a big city person :)
ReplyDeleteI allow the posibility that many people are really enjoying it.
I'm not a sweet tooth, but of course honey is the basic ingredient for a lot of dishes, and I also like to replace unhealthy sugar with honey like a sweetness for tea or desserts.
I try to help the environment by using reusable bags, saving the electricity, water and recycling - wish that more people will start do that simple things and we all will help the planet live much more longer.
It's one of my dreams to have beehives someday so I find beekeeping very interesting hobby that has a lot benefits for the environment. I would love to learn more about beekeeping and I think it's great that you had this opportunity in your family. I'm very concern about bees nowadays si I have planted flowers on my balcony which attracts them.
ReplyDeleteI think that beekeeping is a hobby not for everyone and it must be time-consuming so I don't think that it would be a good activity for me. Normally, I don't eat honey. One time, I bought some small jars of honey in Italy and they were delicious, but typical honey from store is not for me. I don't do anything special to improve environment, but also my lifestyle is not as harmful. I segregate garbage, travel using public transport or on foot and I try to educate others to avoid harmul actions.
