  1. Reading this article I am afraid that in those days people still believe in such things .. like Witch and witchcraft.
Most often poor and uneducated people believe in a superhuman strength . The worst part is that this problem belief in witches affects women and little girls.
Unfortunately, even the closest family that was Lbidapo's aunt , believe in these superstitions and accused her of witchcraft, although she helped her aunt as she could .Such people like Libtado do not go to the police because they are afraid that they will have it worse by problems at home.
We have 21st century and beyond such things are happening ...this is terrible.Belief in witches ... murder for religion. I wonder if one day our world will become normal, if we fall into paranoia .

  2. Reading this article I reminded about the problems of the African albinos.
In African countries, albinos are considered to be someone endowed with magical powers. As long as they live, their power can be dangerous. After his death, this power becomes some kind of benefit for someone who has even an albino body parts. The belief that they have magical powers leads to brutal killings and trafficking in body parts of these white-skinned Africans.
Some time ago I watched a gripping documentary about their fate. One albino rode with the camera in the villages and towns and tried to explain to people that albino is not unusual, that albinos are the same people as others and people should not be afraid of them and should not kill them for "making talismans". Unfortunately, in most cases, people were not convinced. In this article was also a boy who wanted to get to the resort for albinos, the only relatively safe for them.
It is terrible! Something which for us is abstract and unthinkable, is commonplace in African regions.

  3. In my opinion the parents described in the above article should not have children nor stepchildren. They believe that their children are possessed by the devil or evil spirits. This is absurd. I would argue that the parents themsleves are possessed when you consider they smother their children or throw them out of the house.
I would rather think that it is not a case of possession but it's just children's nature. Children have always too much energy and they are often bored. This overactivity is frustrating for parents. Sylwia is right, it is terrible to believe in superstitions like witches. I hope that in the near future it will change for the better.

  4. I don’t get it how people can believe in such things. Last three terms I was writing about religions(Buddhism, Mormons, Scientology), but none of them was cruel. OK, members of the last one can sue you, or exclude you from family, but they aren’t so cruel like Islam or Christianity (crusades, missions to Africa etc.). But those numbers aren’t that great like for example women killed by her husbands due to religion, child molesters or even psycho-killers. I know I shouldn’t divide it into bigger or lesser problems, because they’re all the same for me – weird fanatics, who will find any cause to harm another being, but when I read some comments, that THIS is terrible – every crime, based on fanatism is terrible, beside that every murder is terrible, beside the cause.

I wouldn’t be myself, if I didn’t add South Park/Family Guy link, so here it goes: http://southpark.cc.com/clips/153779/victim-child

  5. Personally I feel that described in the article people who commit this type of behavior, have nothing to do with mental health. I am surprised by the fact that described events takes place in Great Britain, which is considered as progressive and modern country. Unfortunately, such a great impact on the perception of the world is derived from a variety of religion interpretation.

This does not change the fact that any manifestation of violence against children should be condemned regardless of factors such as origin or religion.

  7. This is for real? I thought we live in the 21st century but, as you can see there are still people who are mentally staying in the Middle Ages. It is a difficult subject, because some will look at it through the prism of religion, others medicine and diseases. But surely people who are cruel to others must be punished and such behavior can not be accepted by society and authorities.

  8. Living in 21st century in Europe (the cradle of civilization) we do not realize that there are countries which are not developing at a fast pace.
Witches, witchcrafts? It can be funny but people from Africa can have some weird and not civilized methods of living.
With reference to those cases in London I think that people who arriving there need to be educated. Everyone has own life and I know this but I think it is worth a try to show people who doing sucj things that they are wrong.
This kind of behaviour should not be accepted by society and governments should provide some methods to help people with such problems.

  9. Here ( http://www.huffingtonpost.com/marilynne-k-roach/9-reasons-you-might-have-_b_4029745.html ) is an interesting article about reasons you might have been suspected of Witchcraft in 1692. These two articles shows that both in the past and nowadays, people murder in the name of religion or inconsistent beliefs. It’s terrifying that on 21st century people still belief in such a things.

  10. I'm surprised that in XXI century we still have cases of crime related to "possession" and "witchcraft". Especially in highly developed European country such as UK.
However, religions do exist and as long as they have followers there would always be cases radical behaviors regarding its dogma.
The lack of awareness mentioned in the article is obviously caused by the fact that most people can't even take seriously something like "witchcraft". I just can't even comprehend how can someone believe in such nonsense.

  11. Firstly, while I was reading this, I couldn't believe that those things are still happening in XXI century especially in Western Europe. But then I thought it shouldn't be so surprising because in every society we have uneducated people whose beliefs are still somewhere near dark ages when every unexplained phenomenon was or God's or Devil's doing. And when you have no one to blame (it's hard to punish god or devil for some wrong doing or harm) frustration almost always leads to aggression, mostly directed on the helpless ones who won't fight back - children. What scares me more, you actually don't have to look far for this god-fearing devotees - in our own country every year world famous exorcist J.B. Bashobora gathers thousands of followers attending his performances, cheering and praying, believing every word he says - which for me all looks like very lucrative business.

  12. After reading this article I’m shocked that nowadays in XXI century people act like this. This people kill helpless children even from theirs’s families. This kind of tribes are so much backward, they live far away from civilization. They gather in churches and they blindly believe a pastors, which have ultimate power and in every moment can point any children and put them to the death. How does this affect to the psyche of such a child? Children like this might be felt like nobody, they don’t feel safe, and theirs’s families are not real families, because they don’t know it is to be loved for real. I think that foundations like ‘Africa Unite Against Child Abuse’ help children, because even if they are outcasts, they still have a chance of worthy living with new loving families. I recommend you to watch a document which refers to this article. There are 5 parts, and here is a first part: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbGzFN_NalI

  13. Religion deals with very important spheres of our lives - the cornerstone and meaning of existence, afterlife, the reason of our presence here and understanding of the way we exist.

It isn't new to me, that this often influenced people in such a strong way, that they did things that are considered crazy, horrifying, cruel. Unfortunately.

  14. This article really shocked me. I could not believe that such a cruel and divorced from reality behaviours exist nowadays. Ibidapo story is very sad for me and I feel sorry to this young girl whose live became to a nightmare. I have quite big experience with working with chidren and I can imagine how devastating for the psyche could be her situation. Psychological violence and oppression are such a stigma that remains in man. I think that goverment and society should pay more attenton on crimes connected of Witchcraft.
