Week 6 [4.01-10.01.16]: Witcher 3 – the best game ever

I'm going to tell why I think The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is the best game I've ever played. How the Witcher 3 has become the most immersive and enjoyable game experience that I've ever had and honestly I want to talk about why I'm sad that it's over and why I hope that CD Project RED does continue the series in the future.

I will start with information that this game has won the Game of the Year award for the best single player 2015. Other games which also have won this award are Diablo II, Call of Duty, God of War and The Sims. This is distinction for a Polish developer.  They built a game that is better  in many aspects than the Elder Scroll: Skyrim. This is huge. The Witcher 3 is an open-world game which enabled to abandon the main quest and embark on side quests, such as one in which the witcher Geralt tracks the arsonist who burned down a blacksmith’s house. One of quests was a prize the “Best gaming moment” in Golden Joysticks 2015. The name of the quest is “family matters”. This is a story about a bloody baron and his family. “The Baron is a soldier, much like we have today, who comes back from war with PTSD and alcohol issues. He’s unstable and unpleasant, but he also has positive traits. He loves his family and would do anything for them.” tells Paweł Sasko, designer of the quest. This part of game is like a movie, you can watch it without any knowledge about the rest of Gerald's stories.

The whole campaign of The Witcher 3 is fantastic. It's filled with some of the best quests and side-stories. This is a quality production and a beautifully crafted world full of stories. In great RPGs, side quests are often more interesting than the main story, giving you a peek into the world you’re exploring or teaching you something new about your own character. The Witcher 3 is not just great. It’s exemplary, utterly stuffed with both mainline and secondary quests more nuanced and original than the best moments in other RPGs I’ve played

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is more than just an incredible game. It is also a respectful closure for Geralt, the series and its fans. Morality plays a big part in the outcome of Gerald’s adventure, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt sets new standards for video game writing.

  1. Just to clarify: Witcher didn't win only one Game of the Year award. You're probably writing about Golden Joysticks Awards. They're like Gaming Oscars, so they're the most important, but Witcher has over 170 “Game of the Year” awards (and numbers are still growing http://gotypicks.blogspot.ca/).

Second thing is that we had a similar presentation last term (http://konwersatorium3.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-witcher-3wild-hunt-this-is-thethird.html) and my opinion about this game didn't change – as a creator I'm proud of it.

I might be disappointed because you only mentioned quests and story (I'm working in Character Department), but I'm really glad that you enjoyed playing Witcher 3 (have you tried Heart's of Stone as well)?

I'm not impartial, but I can only say that working on this project was a great fun and for the second expansion we're preparing even more great stories, characters, locations and ideas. And don't forget about Cyberpunk as well!

    1. Thank Jakub for your response. Im very happy that you have chance to create this game. Great job! :)

I dont have chance to play or hear a lot about cyberpunk and HoS but Im pritty sure that I will check them soon :)
Can you tell me more about your role in Character Department? Im rly interested

    2. I was the guy responsible for everything (or at least 90% of things) that moved on characters. Pieces of cloth and armours (https://youtu.be/wvWti3bPYiM?t=9m34s),pendants, ropes, pieces of material (https://youtu.be/pzvkB3w1qXQ?t=14m53s), collar system etc. Actually Stan is using my movies in the second link provided and talking a lot about my job. I also created around 90% of rigs and skeletons for the game - ships, carts, characters, wyvern, toad, werewolf, katakan - I fixed, improved or created from scratch every most of the skeletons used in this game.

      https://vimeo.com/150659125:
      toad - brand new
harpy - small skinning fixes and bone adjustments
      wildhunt minion - brand new
      troll - redoing old one
      wyvern - brand new
arachas - small skinning fixes and bone adjustments

So I had an opportunity to do something with most of the main and secondary characters in the game (and crowd as well).

  2. Do you like to play video games or watch other players?

I like playing PC games. Now I'm a big fan of HearthStone and sometimes I play WarThunder. This game is an amazing tank simulator.
With regard to watching other players I was recently watching my boyfriend playing Fallout 4.

Do you agree that this is the best game ever?

I think we should commend all polish things. So I agree that this game is the best game till now. I've watched for a few minutes my friend playing Witcher 3. It is worth to draw attention to the refined graphics. I heard very positive comments about this game. My friend commended that npcs are not too generic and seem to live in the Witcher world. The fighting mode is very impressive and nontrival because you must know how to precisely control the character in order to deal damage.

Maybe you have had a chance to watch someone play or reviewed games on the internet?

I have many chances to watch someone play because my boyfriend is a fan of various games. I love to play together in one team with him or with friends. This option is offered in games like: WarThunder or World of Tanks.

  3. Do you like to play video games or watch other players?
Currently, I do not play video games, but when I was younger I liked to play games. I am not sure that games that I played, they can be called video games but in the past they were very popular and everyone had them at home. In fact, not the games, but the console. It was a black, popular in those days the equipment, commonly known as Pegasus. Pegasus offered the wide range of excellent games such as Contra, Super Mario Bros, The Tanks and many many others. It was my first device to play, until such time as my parents bought me my first computer.
Now, I do not play video games, but I like to watch other players. Sometimes when I meet with friends, they arrange tournaments in different video games, then we have a lot of fun, but then I am just an observer.

Do you agree that this is the best game ever?
Unfortunately I had no opportunity to test this game, or watch someone else playing this game, but I heard about it. Just premiere sparked huge excitement and effectively sparked the imagination of millions of players. It is great that polish game can conquers the world. This game has a very positive opinion, so I can only believe in them and enjoy its success.

Maybe you have had a chance to watch someone play or reviewed games on the internet?
So, as I wrote in response to the first question, sometimes I watch other players. There are usually my friends, during our meetings. Gentlemen are playing and the ladies are gossiping :)

A few years ago, I loved playing PC games such as The Sims, Need For Speed, Hard Truck. He loved to play online games Perfect Word. Today I have no time for games.

Do you agree That this is the best game ever?
It's hard to say because I have never played this game. But I see that is similar to the game Perfect Word - I loved this game :)

Maybe you have had a chance to watch someone play or reviewed games on the internet?
Sometimes I wish I could go back to the MMORPG Perfect Word, but still lack the time to play :(

    1. Thank you Sylwia for your comment. I understand you I have the same feeling. Game take much time of my life. Sometimes I just watch on yt or twitch some quests becouse I dont have time to this. Even some players add much more to stream, they talk about history, process of creating quests and add some tips how to be better in this game. Some players are rly profesionals and they do they job with passion. I hope that you will have change to watch this kind of peoples in action. I like to watch remigiusz maciaszek on youtube, if you have few minutes you can watch some epizodes :)

  5. The topic is not really familiar to me... I don't play video games (except for one or two on my mobile phone) and never played Witcher. I have heard some opinions and it seems the game is popular and well-developed.

I have also never read the Witcher saga, so not much to say:)

  8. Unfortunately, the gaming is not my hobby, so I do not know how I could refer to your article.

Perhaps only to the business side:

I believe that the company CDProjekt is brilliantly managed and I'm glad they went with the flow and it is a company recognized in the world, where it is identified with a great product. Cooperation with Tomasz Baginski is very successful as evidenced by each animation prepared by his studio.

I myself am a fan of the novel and extremely pleased me is the fact that the game has helped to re-talk about her film version.

  9. Do you like to play video games or watch other players?

Yes, I really love to play video games. When I was younger, I had more time for that, but now I play only from time to time. I don't like to watch other players, because I always want to do it myself and be in the middle of the action.

Do you agree that this is the best game ever?

Playing Witcher 3 is the first thing witch I will do after my graduation. That's why I can't judge until I will play it :) But I have played witcher 1 and 2 couple of times, and I think I know what my answer will be :)
I still remember, when I bought first part of this game. There was a book describing story about monster "Strzyga" inside. I totally loved it, and after that I read all Sapkowski's books about Geralt :) I became a huge fan of everything connected with witcher.

Maybe you have had a chance to watch someone play or reviewed games on the internet?

As for the Witcher: Nobody need to persuade me to play this game. I didn't read any full reviews on the internet. I've seen some gameplays, but I didn't want to see many, because I don’t want to spoil the fun.

For the other games I watch reviews and gameplay before I decide to buy it.

  10. Hi Rob C!
Great article that shows you are really fascinated by video games :) I admire the fascination of this type, because I have a completely different look at the games from a developer's perspective hehe
Unfortuanatly I'm not intrested in computer games
so I can't refer to this particular game...
For me this is only software invented by group of programmers haha, that I really, really admire that you have satisfaction of playing, because that I thing, all of the actions in game, all of interactions and situations that hapens in virtual world was programmed...
Nothing is by accident, and the probability of winning is also programmed - even though you are controlling a hero, your decisions have already been provided :)

What you can learn by playing video games?
Could you explain to the layman what it means RPG? :D

  11. The Witcher 3 is an absolutely amazing gaming experience, the vast open world with beautiful scenery, fantastic plot based on Sapkowski's books and marvelous music. I consider it a kind of Polish legacy ;) and I'm really glad that's what our country gets recognized for.
I'm very proud of the CD Projekt RED team, because now only the game itself won a significant amount of GOTY award but also REDs won Developer of the year, in my opinion that's a huge succes.
In fact our adventure with The Witcher is not over yet. Not long after the premiere of the base game we got Hearts of stone DLC, which was one of the best, if not the best, expansions of the year. What's more in april we're supposed to get Blood and Wine - the second DLC. The forecasts are really optimistic - it might be even better than Hearts of stone, so let's hope for the best.

I liked to play games when I was younger. But from many years I didn't play in anything. Simply from day to day I stopped to feel the pleasure of it... My favorite games was Counter Strike and Mafia. I also liked World of Warcraft, but despite several attempts the maximum time that I was able to spend is two weeks. I did not have any occasion to play in any part of The Witcher so I can't comment it. Although I have heard about the popularity of the game in the world and many favorable reviews. I am glad that Polish production was a success.

  13. Wow! It's great to hear that our game studios are cabable of creating such great games thus promoting the whole country. I'm not a gamer myself, but I've heard a lot about The Witcher, after all who hasn't! I've seen the reviews and it might be one of very few games I'll find time to check out myself. Taking into consideration all of the above I find it hard to say if that's the best game ever, but I sure like to think so! :)
