  1. Uh, I have a very mixed up feelings about where Facebook is heading and where we're moving with it.
From purely social network it turned into some sort of commercial hub. I don't mind seeing it as one of many sources of information though: few revolutions, conflicts and other important events around the world proved it competence.
Seeing it mixed up with contextual posts and adverts plus photos of your friends from recent holidays I have a feeling that its 'tentacles' (as called in article) are starting to reach too far.
Going further with emotion recognition added to the mixture, we might end up in a platform capable of predicting any political or financial crisis (which I guess could be the case already).
On the other hand, I might represent anxiety of minority of users as I find Facebook OAuth a.k.a. 'Sign in with Facebook' as currently its best feature.

  2. Well, it is hard to say.
Almost everyone uses Facebook. Recently my over 70 years old grandfather create an account there. Is it good? Maybe. But one must say - The messenger is wonderful. Unfortunately mainly because the Facebook has a large number of users.
Back to the article. In think it's good that there are such conferences like F8. They are expensive, but mainly because they are global. If I had a free $ 600 I would probably not be able to get tickets. 2600 places for developers is not so much :)
Michal wrote some interesting above. I really hate facebook authentication on most sites. If you choose that option the supplier of the site receives our personal data like name, surname, email, phone. If I can, I try not to use this login option

    1. " I really hate facebook authentication on most sites. If you choose that option the supplier of the site receives our personal data like name, surname, email, phone. If I can, I try not to use this login option" That's only if you provided this information to Facebook.. so if you decided to give it away already why should you bother? :)

    2. I think you're right. In addition, by registering without facebook, the site will probably ask you to provide your details anyway. This is simply to make it easier to register. On the other hand, you can always use forms with your personal data stored in your browser (so-called AutoComplete).

  3. I think facebook already achieved their main goal which is stop users from leaving facebook services. It's honestly hard to delete your facebook account, becouse of so many connections between it and other webpages or services. For instance, if I'd delete my account I would not be able to get newest information about my university degree from collegue, because the information are posted in facebook group.
I'm a bit scared seeing facebook taking over more and more business areas.
    News? Facebook.
    Conversations? Facebook.
    Photos? Facebook
Nowadays youd don't even have to create account on another services, you can log in based on facebook account. It's convinient, but the blue social service gets more information about you and you are happy about it!
Personally, I'm scared that facebook is constantly combining more services into one. If facebook controls all the services then who will stop them in case they will start to filter information send to you or block your access to services?

    1. I couldn't agree more! We as a society became so much dependent on technology and global corporations such as facebook or google that most of us don't give a second thought when asked for private data when accessing sites using facebook login. We have to remember that when Mark Zuckerberg is quoted “people and nations turning inwards – against this idea of a connected world and community” all he really wants is more people using his services to make more money of them. Another perfect sentence from this article: "if you’re not paying, you’re the product".

    2. It's not that they don't block news or political views they don't like already. I don't want to start a political debate here but with rise of 'fake news' it's really easy to have excuse for blocking things that are uneasy, while not being actually fake per se.

    3. As Michal stated, Facebook became not only a ground of Infowar but they are a part of those struggles themselves, not as a neutral judge, but more like a side of conflict valuing one point of view above the others. And company that big, being a source of information for many is a real threat for free speech. Only a bit smaller then Google.

    4. Guys, I agree with you. Our generation leaves small parts of data about our life in social networks. Owners facebook, or google have very big data for predict our habits. It is horrible, but they use data for targeting advs, but not prepare burglary for our home (when we sent vacation photos for Instagram or when we booked hotel for weekend in other city).

More, more dangerous is when we allow read our data for all in social network. I know many specialized apps for discover and interperting public data in facebook.

We should not be afraid Zuckerberg. Our imprudence in publishing data on the network is more serious dangerous.

  4. One what is the most scariest for me is fact that Facebook in overall has incredible power and influence over all most people. This article makes me think about our safety. Have we got any privacy yet? For every new person, I would like to share with my article from the last semester. Here is a link http://konwersatorium3.blogspot.com/2017/05/week-5-8-14052017-have-we-got-any.html. Check this out! In Facebook era all the things in our life seems to be available for everybody. It’s my first thought. On the other side, Facebook engineers are awesome! Every tool which is created by Facebook is so innovative. Facebook is one of the biggest players in artificial intelligence race what is really impressive but also frightening. In some part I would like to be one of the the guys creating this cool stuff, no matter what position, hope so IT. What is more, Facebook can’t have so much control but it has, nobody can’t. There are two sides to every story. I can’t take responsibility for people’s choices but also I can’t watch irresponsible choices. I seems to every option is dubious.

  5. Reading the article, I realized I’ve been somewhat ensnared by Facebook myself. Recently, I bought several items thanks to Facebook ads. All the spendings were worth it though, because I purchased courses I could participate in on desktop and mobile devices. Still, I’ve been precisely targeted as a customer by a quality Facebook ad. I reckon Facebook is trying to influence us in very subtle and barely noticeable ways. This is a dangerous and efficient policy at the same time. I try to share as little personal details as possible on the platform. I very rarely use the log in via Facebook option.

  6. I'm not quite sure if this article is provocation or not, because it shows what Facebook did. Indeed Zuckerberg did a lot to expand social media, but have u ever read Facebook policy term? To be honest when u public something, you don't own it. I'm not so convinced about good good and bad sites of using Facebook

  7. Recently, I noticed that facebook becomes an aggregation of ads, events, groups. Only sometimes on the wall I see the posts of friends. This depends on what the user clicks on or how often his friends add content to their profiles. However, my colleagues from work confirm this observation. What do you think?

  8. I often use Facebook for the news feed - it always provides interesting articles and informations about current incidents. Social media is much quicker than any other media - thanks to so many users news spread at an astonishing pace.
Facebook is a sign of our times. ‚Global society’ has been marked by rapid changes thanks to social media fierce development. Zuckerberg did nothing but satisfied society’s needs. If he hadn’t done it, then somebody else would have. Due to their immense popularity, giants like Facebook and Google are able to pursue new technologies - like the VR tech mentioned in the article. Disregarding Zuckerberg’s sectarian-like slogans, it’s hard not to agree with him - future is coming and there’s nothing we can do about it.

  9. Tyler Durden said:
“You are not special. You're not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else. We're all part of the same compost heap. We're all singing, all dancing crap of the world.”
Yesterday I watched Fincher’s Social Network movie and I really have mixed feelings
about this guy, Zuckerberg. I probably don’t like him but I have facebook and Im not going to
delete it or something. Im not really into conspiracy theories or mind control. Its true that
fb controls more and more bout our lives but are they really matters? I used to be active on
the site few years ago but now its more like unofficial business card or maybe just a waste
of messenger which I use a lot. Someone up here wrote that its hard to give up fb.
You can use only messenger with no fb. I have friends like this. Have even one without
anything. Maybe some should exit their comfort zone.
    Cheers
