Week 2 [23-29.10.17] Good deeds (for animals)

Some time ago I wrote an article about turtles on this blog. This time for a change the article will be about cats. The cat who was not planned at all.
But starting from the beginning…
One time I needed to go to my
home town. I knew no one would be there, because my parents were on vacation. When I arrived, I saw a cat. I thought “ok, it's a village and there are homeless cats everywhere”. Together with my fiancé we tried to ignore it. But it was impossible. He made scary and sad sounds. So we gave him something to eat. He was starving and ate the whole sausage (nothing else was at home). Then we agreed that we would take him to the vet. You probably never carried a wild cat. We tried to pack him into the box. 4 times :) The Fifth time, he destroyed the box with claws. After two hours of catching the cat we took him to the vet. We wanted to know if it had a chip. Unfortunately he did not. He got the basic drugs and we took him to our home. All day long, he was sitting under the couch, seriously! The next day we made up notices saying we had found a cat. There was only one phone call, as it turned out - it was not that cat. After that, we started the discussion. The decision was not easy because I and my fiancée were allergic to cat’s hair. You probably know how the story ended.

We are happy cat owners. We wanted to have a dog and we have a cat – this is sick :)
As I have already said about dogs, I would like to mention a cool initiative. You probably do not know, but you do not have to adopt a dog. You can go out with homeless dogs for walks.

You can do this every Saturday in the shelter called ‘Schronisko dla bezdomnych zwierząt w Celestynowie’. I am personally a volunteer there. Walks usually take from 30 minutes to an hour and all you have to do is have good intentions (and ID 😉).

If you want to walk
dogs (here you have some links)

But if you would like to adopt a pet, then I recommend the following page

Do you have any pet? If yes, please share it 😊
Have you ever considered being a volunteer or adopting a dog? Why/ why not?

Did my presentation made you interested in walking dogs?

  1. Unfortunately i do not have a pet. I had one when i was still living with my parents, but because i live in a small flat in the center, there was no point in taking her with us. She stayed on the suburbs and has a lot more space to run and play.

I have never considered being a volunteer but i always donate 1% of my taxes (via pit) to a animal shelter.

I must say walking the dog is something which makes me not want to consider having one.

    1. It is good that you give at least part of your tax

  2. I took three dogs from shelters and animal-helping foundations throughout my adulthood, but only one of them lives with me now - I've spread the love in my family equally.
One day I'll probably buy one instead of adopting, but with a heavy heart.
One of my adoptees passed away recently and I took it with sadness but also with joy. Her heart stopped during one of everyday, exhausting plays with other dogs - something she would never experience in a cage she was taken from, with all the chronic illness she had.
Either way, thanks for sharing your story with us and helping out animals - they deserve it so much more and are way more grateful than humans are.
    Spread the word! :)

    1. Why do you want to buy a dog? Mongrels are usually more healthy then racial dogs

    2. Because why not? I never bought a dog, I think I'll find it as a good experience for myself. I don't think I will love dog from shelter more than the one I'd buy.
Perhaps I could also have a valid point of view to recommend adoption for others in the future having both experiences. They won't tell me: "Why do you discourage me from buying a dog? You never bought one.".

    3. Thanks for reply. What breed of dog are you looking for?

  3. I don't have any pet, but I had 3 dogs back in my hometown.
I have never concidered to be volunteer, but I acctually had adopted dogs. 2 of the 3 dogs were from shelters.
Well, probably more interested than I was before :)

  4. I admire you it is very hard to be an allergic and have a pet. I;m happy two pet owner: rabbit rase lion and parrot alexandretta obrożna :). Parrot is in my parent-of-law house, but rabbit is with us. Year before I had two rabbits but one didn't alive curation :(. While I had two rabbits doctor said to me that I'm allergic, but I responsed that I don't care about that because I love my pets. Couple years ago I saved one rabbit from bad owner.
That is really nice that you are volunteer, I don't know if I could do this. Do you have any advice? I'm animal lover and I always want to have all animals <3

    1. Sure, there are many initiatives. One of them is walking with dogs. But you can always contact a shelter and ask how you could help. My colleague, for example, cleaning the cages of rabbits :)

  5. Our dog got up after someone probably threw it out of the car. He came to the center where my mother worked, close to the road out of the town. Employees fed him for about a month, no one reported to the dog, so we decided to take him home. For the first couple of weeks he was very stressed and cautious. He did not even bark. Fortunately, he is already a full member of our family.

  6. Post about cats... Smuggler of good deeds :P It's very nice from you to remind people about these poor dogs who need ours help. BTW i have two cats for few weeks. My younger sister forced parents to adopt them. I was like "are you kidding me... Years of bad stories about cats and now you want to have these troubles twice at once..." If you ever wondered about having a cat, don't be afraid, I was die hard dog lover before owning cats :)

  7. 1. No, I haven’t got any pets. My dream is to have a pug, but I also like to be independent person, so it’s not so simple. Maybe, one day… Who know?
    2. I’ve thought about the adopting animals a lot. I think it’s great to want have a pet in that way. It’s very positive and for me it’s only way to get a pet. Some day I also consider being a volunteer but I stopped. Now, as you wrote some interesting article about it I’ll consider one more time.
    3. I’m not sure. Your article is very interesting in overall and positive but walking dogs is not so accented so history about a your new cat.

  9. I'm also a fan of dogs. I'm the owner of one of the dogs who is presently in my home town.
I don't want to take my pet to the city, because I think that it isn't a good place for him.
A lot of freedom in small village gives him a lot of happiness.
I'm thinking about buying a small pet to my small flat.
Naturally, I'm planning to buy a dog.

  10. I have a one dog and I live in Warsaw. I must spend many time for my dog. Very long walking in nearest park or free time in small garden ( I have flat in ground floor) is required in each day. If I had a bigger apartment then I would adopt next dog.

  11. I have a cat. Her name is Doda. She is very good cat. When I come back from work and I'm going to sleep she always sleeps with me. We are good friends.
Unfortunately I don't like dogs. I think that they could be agressive and unpredictable. Dogs always do what they want. Cats are clever. That's the reasons that I'm not interested in walking dogs.
I have never thought about being a volunteer. Why? Because I'm working a lot and the rest of my free time I spend on sleeping or on meeting with my girlfriend. But the main reason is the fact that I don't like dogs. And I think I will not change my mind about them.

  14. Oh, nice article. Actually I've got a dog.
Small type, really friendly and funny. He jumps so hard in our live that he actually travel with us everywhere.
    Winter-> dog backpack and skiing.
Summer-> dog carry bag and we cycling around the town.
Regular day-> shopping, moving around the city, there's no problem for him.
For him, the most painfully think is staying along at home. That's why whole familly cooperating to keep him with some of us.

    yea, I know, it's a maniac,

    1. I agree with Maciej. Me too have a small dog and we spend all time together.

Extra we go to work, and last time we were at a database seminar. Everything is possible because he's very quiet and still.

In the future i'd like to adopt a dog.
Now isn't possible because life would be more difficult with two dogs.

  15. Unfortunately I never had any pet. I like animals dogs and cats and stuff.
But I believe people should have kind of a "driving" licence for animals.
And proper house for it that someone should check. Like big dog, big house.
    Sorry I'm educated like this.
    Yo

  16. Great story! It's always cool to hear from people who adopt pets instead of buying them. I myself own 3 cats - one of them was found on the street, and 2 others were born and abandoned near my country house, so we took them in and fed them with goat's milk until they grew up:) First, they all lived in our city apartment, but some time later we assumed that they would be happier in more natural environment. Now they live with my mother in the village - you can tell they're way more relaxed there. That's why I wouldn't keep an animal in a flat again. I think walking dogs from shelters is a good alternative. Thanks for bringing up the subject!:)
