Spotify vs Tidal - which one to choose? These are services thanks to which we can listen to music from the Internet. For too little money we have access to a huge number of artists, albums and songs. Which is better?
1. Quality of sound
I will start with something important, though not the most important thing for many people - sound quality. In my opinion, Tidal wins here, but only on condition that we choose a Hi-Fi subscription in which we can not only listen to lost compressed songs (FLAC), but also receive Master Quality Authenticated technology, which offers sound quality at the level originally recorded in recording studio. Tidal Master is only available in the desktop program and on some players, but not in the mobile application. It is worth noting, however, that the difference in quality will be appreciated only by people with more sensitive hearing and better playing equipment. You can hear not only better detail but also dynamics.
2 Interface, ease of use
In both cases it is good. (but this is a subjective matter). The most important things, such as your own playlists, saved albums, artists, or recommended music in both services, access is easy on both the PC and smartphone. Tidal will create for you "Your Mix" or automatically generated playlist based on the music you like. Spotify has "Daily Mix" in several scenes - each Mix is ??based on a different style / musical genre. Both of these solutions are useful and visible in the main interface of the PC and mobile applications.
3.Mobile application
Both Spotify and Tidal have applications for the most popular mobile system, i.e. Android and the second in the iOS order. Both applications work very well, are clear, clear and easy to use. In principle, they are quite similar to each other.
4.Offline music
Tidal and Spotify offer the possibility to download songs to the smartphone's memory and listen to them without permanent internet access. So you can download them over Wi-Fi at home and dont use the internet package on the go. It can also be useful when, for example, we are traveling by train and from time to time we lose connection with fast internet.
5. Remote control of the player
Only Spotify has this option in the standard and in my opinion it is a huge advantage. The point is that we get the ability to control music using a smartphone, while playing on another device (such as a computer or console). In Tidal, there is no default - you can use external solutions, but it will not be easy and obvious for everyone.
6.Price
Spotify Premium and Tidal Premium - PLN 19.99 per month (1 person)
Spotify for family and Tidal for the family - 29.99 PLN per month (6 people)
Spotify for student and Tidal for student - PLN 9.99 per month (1 person, during the course of study)
Tidal Hi-Fi - 39.99 PLN per month (1 person)
Tidal Hi-Fi - 59.99 PLN per month (6 people)
Tidal Hi-Fi - PLN 19.99 per month (student)

1. Do you use such music applications?
2. Which application is better in your opinion? If you dont use applications what kind of listening to music you prefer?
3. Do you think such applications are a revolution in the music industry?
I still remeber times when I would download music from the internet then change titles and add all the additional info and then download album cover and then copy the files onto the mp3. It was a lot of work... Now I use only Spotify in a nonpremium version to sometimes listen to music at work. At home I have my personal collection of CD's as well as youtube. I do think that these kind of applications changed the world. I can't remember when was the last time I searched for an album online.
ReplyDeleteI thought only I did it! Also, I was a total freak on this point, to this day I have on old disks music described exactly with album covers by me. Today I do not imagine that I had to waste time on it. Now everything is easy...
DeleteI’m afraid I have nothing to say about this topic. I listen to music very rarely and those are rather accidental situations or music played by other people. I have never been interested in music and now my home is very noisy, so there is not to much space for next sounds. However if I had to chose I would use service which has easier interface, offline mode and lower price. Quality of music is not so important to me, because I don’t hear the difference, I also don’t need mobile application, I try not to have all my life and hobbies in my phone.
ReplyDelete1. Do you use such music applications?
ReplyDeleteYes, I was using Spotify for many years, recently moved to Apple Music, because I like it's recommendations and playlist better - just my preference. I was also using Tidal (but disliked how PC / Mac application worked, it was not responsive enough for my taste). I also used IDAGIO for a while - it's an app for streaming classical music only.
2. Which application is better in your opinion? If you dont use applications what kind of listening to music you prefer?
As I stated before, at the moment I am using Apple Music because of good music recommendations I get in the app. I also like the design a little better than the Spotify, but that's not important, it's all about the music at the end of the day. I often listen to CDs and vinyl, I am also a heavy bandcamp user. (Buying music in FLAC format and listening from my PC).
3. Do you think such applications are a revolution in the music industry? Absolutely yes. I think the popularity of such applications cut down the scale of stealing music, which is good. Also it's important that these apps are recommending new music to you every time you listen to something - they are great ways to discover new music. On the other hand there were some controversy connected with artists being dissatisfied with how much such apps are paying them in return.
Recently, I use Spotify Premium and this is my most prefered option to listen to music. I don't use Tidal so I can't say anything about which application is better. I am not a kind of audiophile and I do not have any high-end equipment so I don't really care about highest music quality. To be honest, I listen to music only at work and sometimes at home I turn on my bluetooth speaker so good quality is not necessary for me. I think that such applications are a revolution in the music industry and made many people to stop downloading music illegaly from the Internet.
ReplyDeleteI only use Spotify and sometimes youtube or radio. I haven't had a chance to check Tidal. I have similar application installed on my phone, deezer. From your article, I can conclude that it resembles more Tidal. At least in terms of packages and price. But despite that, the most comfortable for me is Spotify. I can integrate it with other devices and listen to my favorite music there. Such applications are quite comfortable and easy to use, and they provide a lot of music :) In Spotify, he suggests me playlists based on what I like and listen to. It's a really cool thing :) Music applications have made a big fuss in the music industry and are still making them. I've heard many times that artists prefer to release an album in Spotify or Tidal rather than release traditional albums. Additionally, an ordinary listener can hear this album right after the premiere :) The revolution is behind us. Now we can wait for the next one :)

ReplyDelete2. Which application is better in your opinion? If you dont use applications what kind of listening to music you prefer?
3. Do you think such applications are a revolution in the music industry?
Yes, I use Spotify and I think it is a great app although after your article I've got encoured to try Tidal also :)
I didn't use Tidal so I cannot judge which app is better but the Hi-Fi option speakes to me. I play some music instruments so for me quality of a sound is very important.
For sure such apps influence music industry. People have easier access to songs so music bands can reach better to people to find new fans and maintain old ones. Before such apps I had to download songs to my computer or mp3 playing device, but now I have all of it in one place without ising physical local data storage, only a little internet transfer. For me it is a great solution and I really enjoy such inventions :)
I have been using Spotify for several months, I have never had any contact with Tidal. I must admit that I defended myself against this way of listening to music for a long time, I downloaded music directly to the phone. To test Spotify I was encouraged by promotion for students. It was a hit and now I cannot imagine listening to music without this application. One downside for me is the limited number of Polish artists. Besides, I think that this is a really great thing. We have access to a huge amount of music for little money. I can recommend Spotify to everyone.
ReplyDeleteI use Spotify. I've been using it for 7 or more years. I also subscribed to premium around 6 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI was also trying out Tidal for one month. I couldn't really find any differences between both of them in functionality. Only thing I saw, I was so used to Spotify UI, I couldn't switch to Tidal UI even though it is looking quite similar.
For me 7 years ago Spotify was like Netflix 2 years ago. It was a big thing. I was used to buying CDs with music and converting them to MP3 files or importing it to my iPod. When I saw I can hear lots of music for 20 zł/month I was shocked. It changed my life that now I can listen to almost any track, by just finding it in the search bar.
I have been using Spotify Premium for few years. It's one of my favourite services. For a reasonable price I can listen to my music everywhere as long as I have internet connection or just download it for offline usage. Spotify is so good that I never considered switching to Tidal or Apple Music. Spotify is to music industry what Netflix is to VOD services. It is a revolution, a high quality audio streaming service. Back in early 2000s everyone was downloading music and listening from mp3. Now you don't have to do it anymore. In 2018 Spotify had more than 30 milion songs and it is more than enough for me.
ReplyDeleteSo far I haven't used such applications because I don't often have time to listen to music. While traveling to work, I read books, and I compare bicycle riding in headphones with a self-harm test in a traffic accident.
ReplyDeleteDue to the non-use of these applications I can not say which one could be better for me. If I find a moment to listen to music, I use YouTube.
Access to almost unlimited music resources for a fixed, monthly fee (not very high) is considered a revolution in the music industry. I wonder how the income of artists will change by using such a distribution model of music.
I use Spotify, and I have not even heard about the second application. However, it is very interesting that it offers listening to flac music. Although in my opinion most people do not hear a big difference between songs in normal quality and flac. I often use the option of co-creating a playlist on spotify. Such applications are fantastic from the point of view of the recipient, as all the albums of your favorite artists have in your pocket. However, I wonder how artists are paid by Spotify. Do they have more profits than from the sale of records?
ReplyDeleteAs a music lover I was always on the lookout for ways to avail me easy access to music, especially to those pieces that I didn't know so whats able to buy earlier. So I started with Deezer, than I moved over to Spotify, even before it was accessible in Poland, and now I also use Tidal.
ReplyDeleteAs mentioned now I moved to Tidal, my main reasoning behind it was the quality of sound files. Tidal is offering Hi-Fi quality, also some of the files are offered in Masted quality. For normal use this completely makes no difference, but I use semi professional equipment with DAC (digital to analog converter) and that high quality really makes huge difference to me :)
I personally love this kind of applications it gives me a lot of freedom and ability to be able to play my music everywhere and anytime I wont. From the perspective of artists and musicians it may not be as good as for us, but then again they mostly make money on the gigs so maybe its fine with them :)
I'm mostly using spotify or just youtube for listining to music. I haven't heard about Tidal before I need to give it a try, can't tell which one is better before that. Both music and video streaming applications are revolutionary for the music/video industry, I think piracy dropped exponentially, because its much more affordable to listen official music, and also it allowed easy access to wide range of different bands etc.
ReplyDeleteI use Spotify and I can’t imagine that I could end my adventure with it. I think we all used to download MP3 files and transfer it to phone or MP3 player. Now we can get music from all over the world just by clicking without this long process that I mentioned. In my opinion Spotify is more user-friendly, but is just my opinion. My girlfriend uses Tidal and says that Tidal is better. Deezeer is also nice platform, but I just saw it for few minutes. I must check it. This applications/platforms lets us listen to almost every artist LEGALY without advertisements (YouTube). They just should be a little bit cheaper :)
ReplyDelete1. Do you use such music applications?
ReplyDeleteI used to use Spofify for a short period of time but I'm not much a music-type of a guy. On a daily basis I'm mostly using YouTube and I don't feel need to buy some premium subscription.
2. Which application is better in your opinion? If you dont use applications what kind of listening to music you prefer?
As I wrote before I just used a Spotify for few times. It's hard for me to get focused while listening to music so basically I'm listening it while I'm driving a car or doing some regular basic home duties. As long as I don't have android/apple car play I'm just using CD/USB but if it would be possible for me I think that using Spotify in the car could be great. On everyday basis it's more that enough for me to play music from YouTube when I'm cooking or cleaning the flat.
3. Do you think such applications are a revolution in the music industry?
I think that streaming is revolution in any kind of field. We really get lots of advantages from it which is benefit for companies that're willing to stream. I don't know exactly how it works for creators but from customer perspective I'm more than glad that I can get almost any product whenever and wherever I want.
I used only Spotify. It has student discount so I pay only 10 PLN per month. I listen to music a lot, especially at work so avoiding ads is quite important for me. I have never used Tidal so I cannot compare these two but I’ve heard that Tidal has better sound quality so I guess it would be preferable choice for audiophiles. Music streaming is huge progress, especially in minds of music listeners. I remember times when I used to look for some audio on the Internet in the mp3 format and then I copied these tracks to my mobile phones or even better mp3 player. Now the only thing I do is type a title of the piece and I’m done.
ReplyDeleteI am currently using Tidal (it was free on Play's offer). I think that its mobile application is not so good, I had a few problems with it. It stopped working several times at the least appropriate moment. As soon as my free period on Tidal ends, I will switch to Spotify. Applications of this type were a revolution a few years ago, now they are a standard, which of course is great.
ReplyDeleteI have never used Tidal before, but Spotify is my friend on daily basis. I am not that much of a listener and usually i listen to some music on a gym or while travelling without any company. I can't compare both applications, but on Spotify I listen to any kind of music, most of the times it ends on listening to american rap. They were some kind of a revolution few years back. Nowadays, they're too popular to make anyone think about them in such category. Looking forward what would be the next invention in music industry.
ReplyDeleteI'm using spotify for few years now and feel like this application suits me best. I've never had anything to complain about it. I love all the integration and clear interface.
ReplyDeleteI've never used tidal before so it's hard to judge. But as You've mentioned spotify has much integrations what is great advantage. I've been using it to control music on my mac or tv which also has spotify what is great for parties or even daily comfort.
I think that those applications are huge revolution. People stopped buying physical albums and spotify replaced it very well. It's not a big cost and You can have all Your favourite artists on Your phone and most important - legally!
1. Do you use such music applications?
ReplyDeleteYes, I use Spotify a lot at work, or while travelling. I love listening to music.
2. Which application is better in your opinion? If you dont use applications what kind of listening to music you prefer?
I didn't use any other than Spotify so I don't have any comparsion. I like to use my headphones. On February I bought a top-notch headphones which provide amazing sound quality.
3. Do you think such applications are a revolution in the music industry?
I think yes, both because of ability to sell records per listen and because of ease of use. So it's beneficial for both sides, listener and seller.
Yes I have use the Spotyfy for several years. As for me, there is a great application for listening to music, unfortunately, there are not all musicians there who interesting me. I can't compare both applications because I have never used Tidal. I got used to the Spotyfy, is really ok for me. This applications have revolutionized the music industry to some extent. Listening to music from CD or vinyl has a completely different sound, of course combining it with good speakers and amplifier. Spotyfy whether Tidal is only next aplication - at least for me. Mobile so that we can always listen to ours favorite music no matter where we are.
ReplyDeleteThis days I'm mostly using Spotify when I want to listen to music from time to time I use YouTube but mostly for video clips, rearly I will make use of SoundCloud. Not long ago after buying unlimited access to internet I stopped downloading songs and albums or using CD's to copy them on mobile phone becouse I could listen to whatever music I wanted and the only problem was battery usage. Few months ago I decided to try Spotify and to this point I'm very pleased with this application. I have almost all artists I like available and I'm feeling much better for paying monthly for the subscription becouse I know I support musicians. This platform solve my problem with buying albums since they were expensive and I didn't feel comfortable with choosing only one artist at the time so I belive products similar to platforms such as Spotify are revolutionary.
ReplyDelete1. Yes I do. I use spotify in daily usage. I enjoy it because I have easy access to music anywhere and anytime.
ReplyDelete2. I have never heard of Tidal before but Spotify sound quality isn’t satisfying me to be honest. Now I wonder about changing a portal.
3. In my opinion yes. Just look at the numbers of people using Spotify. It’s huge. Music piracy went down because of that apps.
ReplyDeleteI has to admit that it crossed my mind to start using spotify. Till now I was rather using Youtube to listen to the music at the office (youtube and other entertainment websites are blocked due to corporate procedures), but it has a very serious drawback, each movie/music clip has to be downloaded and I really quickly run out of the available network transfer on my mobile internet. I also heard about so called Youtube premium, that emerged pretty recently, but I am yet to check what it offers (some people told that really little and cannot compete with spotify)
1. Do you use such music applications?
ReplyDeleteI don't, but I know about Spotify.
2. Which application is better in your opinion? If you dont use applications what kind of listening to music you prefer?
I can't compare them because I haven't used Tidal. But the fact that Tidal has Hi-Fi quality music makes me think that it could be better than Spotify.
3. Do you think such applications are a revolution in the music industry?
No beacuse there are a lot of other ways of listening to music. You can go to YouTube, or simply download lossless quality music from the Internet if you don't care about copyright.
I am a big music fan, however I never used any of the two applications, however heard about Spotify. Maybe this post will actually inspire me to download Spotify. I do find watching music clips on Youtube, but the obvious disadvantage is that, this always includes streaming the video.
ReplyDeleteHowever I do like the idea that it is personalised and the app gives the user which other songs might be appealing to him. It is a good way to stumble on new pieces of music without doing too much research and losing time.
Yes, I think these applications have been a been change in the music industry. Some people mention that they encourage piracy, but on the other hand it is free advertisement for the artists and might make people attend their concerts more often for example.
I used both and I prefer spotify. Why? Mostly I listen to podcasts. There are a lot of them on spotify. This is practically the only thing that still holds me with spotify. If tidal introduces podcasts, I will change application. Mainly because tidal has better quality of music.
ReplyDeleteCompared with the two, I prefer Spotify, and I often use third-party tools to convert Spotify Songs to other formats such as MP3, so that you can listen to Spotify songs all the time even if you don’t have a subscription.
ReplyDeleteIt is TuneSolo Spotify Music Converter, you can convert any Spotify song, album, or playlist to MP3 / AAC / WAV / FLAC format and listen to them offline.
