I`m a big fan of music videos. I`m
trying to be up to date with the latest trends in this field. I admire video
production and post-production, so I like to analyze different visions of music
video makers. For me every music video is a dose of inspiration, because it is
a new short story from the beginning to the end with culture, philosophy,
trends, social problems or truth about the politics.
Music videos could be worse or
better but it's a vision of one or a few people and it deserves respect. Video
makers could show who they are and what really matters for them.
One of the music videos that
impressed me a lot is “Up&Up” by
Coldplay.
The
video shows simple daily things in a beautiful way. The four-minute video
turned out to be very surreal. Incredible things appear in rapidly changing
frames: football players play a kitchen sponge, popcorn breaks out of a
volcano, the Titanic sails in the bath, and a huge butterfly sits on a ship.
The Coldplay music video is like a kaleidoscope. You can watch it forever and
discover something new each time.
Speaking of views - on YouTube, the video
scored about 180 million views by now.

Every single
time I watch this video I feel inspiration and motivation to do something
bigger.

Another music
video that inspire me is “Vremia I Steklo – Back2Leto”.
“Vremya I Steklo”
is a very popular band from Ukraine, which consists of a girl named
Nadia Dorofeeva and her colleague Oleksij "Pozitif" Zavgorodni.
The Back2Leto
video was recorded within two days, but the pre-production and post-production
stages are definitely more important in this case.
The main task in this music video was
to learn how to sing and dance this song at twice as slow pace as it is
in the original. This was done so that the recorded material could be accelerated twice during editing, and Nadia's moves and lips moved
at a normal pace. At the same time, her partner Oleksij had to learn the words
of the song backwards. The shots in which
Oleksij was were inverted so that he moved the opposite way, but the lips moved
normally.
This music
video is so dynamic and visually saturated that the viewer cannot always pick
all special effects used. The director of the video managed to put there 15 different special effect techniques including Matte painting, Chrome key, Rotoscoping, 2D CGI,
3D CGI, Bullet time, cartoon animation and many more in 226 seconds.

The “Back2Leto”
music video is a good example of the fact that a great number of special
effects help music creators add color to their songs.
I strongly recommend
watching these
two music videos!

As a young person, I’m open and ready for new things so almost everything can inspire me. Generally, I like to talk to smart and experienced people and for example, they’re inspiring me. To be honest I can say that the whole world is inspiring for me. As for now, I’ve never watched a music video that made some kind of lifetime impression on me but after watching ‘Coldplay – Up&Up’ I think that I’ve one candidate. I have to admit that this video is some kind of masterpiece and it’s really unique. A lot of effort and hard work was put in it and I admire it.
ReplyDeleteI`m glad that I can show something that impressed you. There are many music videos such like that where you can find hard work and uniqueness. I have only mentioned two that i like the most.
DeleteAs Łukasz mentioned above me, what inspire me the most are people who are leaders in their profession, that's why I like to listen to podcast or read a biography books. What keep me inspired is to be passionate about something because that's the common characteristic between each individual who succeed.
ReplyDeleteAt the other hand it's hard for me to mention music video that impressed me so much, to be honest I'm not a music-kind of a guy but it's worth mentioned that I've been skeptical about that Coldplay Up&Up and surpassingly it appeared quite impressive!
At the end I'm not able to recommend you a worth watching music video, but I'll recommend you a book - S.Hawking "Brief Answers To The Big Questions".
I agree with you that everyone can be inspired by different things. I understand that there are different people on this blog and I just want to show something new for each of you.
DeleteSo many people so many minds :)
I do acknowledge how important music videos are in the ever changing music industry. Not only the music and lyrics are important, but also the image of the artist. Music videos are a way how they can influence their fans and gather new followers.
ReplyDeleteA music video is an advertisement of the track, it has to correspond to the message of art piece. It helps the audience to build some imagination regarding the meaning of the art.
The first music video on MTV ever was “Video Killed The Radio Star” by The Buggles. The televison MTV is a famous trend setter and promoter of many music videos. Especially in the 90s every top music hit that came out was usually provided with a video counterpart as well.
1. I agree with what previous speakers are saying in the context of inspiration. So conversations with people, specialists in their field, various types of films or books.
ReplyDelete2. I don't remember a music video that would make a huge impression on me and somehow stuck in my mind :)
3. That's why I can't recommend anything :(
4. It doesn't appeal to me at all, watching the above music videos, I got tired and stopped watching.
I really enjoyed both of these videos. Of course, they are completely different but are brilliant in their own way. The second video is packed with special effects and it’s hard for me to decide which one I liked the most.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to Polish songs, I really enjoyed this music video https://youtu.be/cg2LN05PXUo
I really appreciated both of the videos you linked in the article but “Back2Leto” made a better impression on me, maybe because it is in a more modern style.
I think that most artistically inspiring are music videos and cartoons for adults such as bojack or rick and morty. My everyday inspirations are mostly from podcasts and music I'm listening to.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest impression on me made coldplay up&up music video. I'm loving it and showing it to everyone for years now. It's unusual, it's playing with perspective and it shows how to get out of boundaries and make something amazing.
What would I recommend? For sure up&up, but I also love Paul Kalkbrenner with his music video story about boy with asperger disease.
Vrema is not really in my style, and about up&up I've already wrote :)
Right now, I can't remember anything that inspired me the most. I think that mostly people around me inspire me to do something new. I don't usually watch music videos so I find it impossible to answer on next two questions. I think that both music videos you showed are great made and even a concept of them is very clever.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have anything specific that inspires me. Mostly it's just random thought "oh, I'd do this or that" and I just do it. "Outside" impulses usually don't affect me much.
ReplyDeleteI can't choose one music video that made lifetime impression on me but I really like the Gorillaz ones, even though I'm not that big fan of their music.
As I said, I like Gorillaz music videos so I'd recommend it. I really like the strange world it features and the story told is actually quite interesting.
I think they are ok but I don't have any particular feelings about them.
I believe that any artistry in craftsmanship is a thing that truly inspires me; whether it's a musician fluent with his instrument or a sportsperson mastering their trade, it is always inspiring to see the pinnacle of human creativity. The Coldplay video clip is visually appealing due its surreal climate and unconventional narration. The Vremia & Steklo video also seems very dynamic and packed with special effects, but speaking of Ukrainian music video cinematography, I do find Grebz video clips more alluring; the absurdity of their clips and the nostalgic feel of vintage hip hop productions made their videos seem fresh and original.
ReplyDeleteIt's always hard to name videos that were the most groundbreaking, but speaking of the most memorable, I must say that the first Prodigy videos were truly game changing with their uncompromising rawness and, more recently, video clips by the French producer Gesaffelstein offer similar experiences, packed with violence, unrest and uneasy atmosphere.
To be honest, I don’t have any inspiration that I can share with you. I have only motivation. About music video I can say that I like old school ones. Like 50 Cent “In da Club” or Eminem “The real Slim Shady” and I only like it, nothing more. Now I don’t watch music video when I want, just when I have to, e.g. at the gym. Unfortunately I can’t recommend you any new music video, because I don’t know any worth enough. I like Coldplay “Adventure of a lifetime” – those with monkeys. Those which you mentioned are also ok.
