Of all the existing dogs, one breed that stands out in particular is definitely the Border Collie. Border Collies are an extremely intelligent and hardworking dog breed. It is not new that all dog breeds have different levels of average intelligence. This breed definitely dominates when it comes to intelligence
Border
collie is hard to confuse with any other breed of dog. They are medium-sized
and have beautiful black and white fur. They give the impression of athletic
dogs. Their intelligent and attentive gaze attracts attention. The eyes of
these dogs reveal a change in attitude. When interacting with people, their
gaze is cheerful and faithful. However, when working, she very quickly turns
into watchful and strict.

The history
of this breed dates back to 1893. Its progenitor were dogs called Old Hemp.
Even then, only 12-month-old dogs of this breed impressed with above-average
herding skills. Modern Border Collies are descended from the Old Hemp breed.
The first Border Collies were separated in 1915, but the Fédération Cynoloqique
Internationale did not recognize the breed as official until 1976.

As I
mentioned, this breed is an extremely intelligent and hardworking breed of
dogs. The role of the shepherd dog is to guard the herd, alert them against
danger (as well as try to scare the danger away), prevent the herd from
separating, and actively support the shepherds in herding sheep between the
pens. They can be actively focused on their tasks for many hours throughout the
day. Border Collies work very well with other herding dogs. If you are

There is
probably no such second breed in terms of training and sports potential. They
practically learn tricks themselves. In a few attempts you can teach them new tricks,
where the same trick takes tens or even hundreds of approaches to dogs of other
breeds. At Agility competitions, where they have to overcome an obstacle course
in the shortest possible time with as few errors as possible, they leave the
competition far behind. See it for yourself if you are interested:

Unfortunately,
this dog breed is not the best choice for average people. They require a lot of
attention and it is very difficult to meet their intellectual and sports
requirements. The Border Collie is definitely a dog for experienced dog owners
who can devote a lot of time and effort to them. They can become quite
descriptive and want to break things in the home. It is similar with hunting
dogs. People who want to adopt or buy specialized dogs should be sure of how to
care for such a dog. It is not enough to go for a walk two or three times a
day. Having such a dog is hard work, but it certainly pays off emotionally :)

My favorite breed of dogs are greyhounds and I am the owner of a beautiful English Greyhound (Whippet) girl. They are very sociable and affectionate dogs that cannot be mistaken for another breed in appearance due to their slender build and graceful way of moving. Due to the fact that it's one of the oldest types of dogs (known since antiquity), they usually enjoy good health.
ReplyDeleteBorder collie is a breed that I know because there were two such wonderful dogs in the kennel my dog is from. I believe that dog training is very helpful in establishing relationships with your pet and teaching him good habits and rules. I did my first training with my Labrador dog and it gave great results, and in January I go to another one with my little Whippet.
The videos are great! It is always very pleasant for me to watch dog racers on the tracks and how they relate to their owner. I think the border collie is a great companion! 💙
Zuzanna, greyhounds' poises seem so majestatic to me. I read that this breed was created to dog races in England. Did you hear that? Is this true? :)
Delete1. Which dog breed is your favourute and why?
ReplyDeleteMy favorite breed of dogs are Labradors, this breed is full of fun and positive energy. My dad owned a Labrador Retriever named Lusia, for me it was probably the most energetic dog walking on Earth. Despite the fact that she was full of energy, she was also loyal and obedient, it was very rare that she did something wrong and even if she did something wrong, it was hard to be angry with her for a long time :)
2. Have you heard of other intelligent dog breeds?
As far as I can tell, most of the dogs that were originally bred to herd sheep and othe farm animals are very intelligent. They learn very quickly and are able to perform difficult tasks. There are many variations of such breeds from Shetland Sheepdog to one of the smallest from the herding group Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
3. Would you like to own a border collie? Would you be interested in training dogs?
Although I love dogs, I realize that keeping such an animal in a small apartment is tiring for them. So until I move into a bigger apartment or house, I'm not going to have a dog. If it comes to training them I've never tried it so I would like to take a part in training of a dog if it ever becomes possible.
4. If you saw the attached videos, how did you like them? What do you think about the breed's potential and abilities?
Border Collie has a reputation for being affectionate, smart and energetic. They are very perceptive and loyal to their owner, because they originally are herding dogs they have loads of energy so they are great companions for exercises like running, etc. In case I were to take a dog that would be the breed I would consider.
As for me, all dog breeds are perfect. I was about 10 when I had Poodle and I liked to play with him, it was a really good and smart dog. After our poodle, I bought a Staffordshire terrier. I was 16 then and I wanted a strong and maybe even evil dog (I think that’s because of my age). And we bought it.Surprisingly for all of my family, this dog was a very smart and kind dog. She was a best friend for me, my parents also liked her a lot and she was very strong but she liked children and likes to play with me. We lived together for 15 years and finally she died. I hope she had a happy and good life with us. I will remember this dog all over my life. Now i have German Shepherd ans she’s very friendly and loyal to me. The German Shepherd will take down anybody who wants to attack you, not by being fierce, but by loving them up. German shepherds, however, will rip an intruder to shreds. I like these because they are incredibly loyal and smart. I just love them.
ReplyDeleteI submit that a Border Collie is not a Dog for the average person. Pretty much acknowledged as the smartest Dog they need a crazy amount of exercise and mental stimilation. Having never had one as part of the family before I am shocked at how different Collie is compared to every other Dog. People get these working Dogs and then just leave them cooped up inside all day. The poor dogs just go insane with boredom.
I train my dog and the dog train me. I really don’t do that many tricks, I concentrate on behaviour modification and basic obedience. Some of which are:
Sit ,Come,Stay, Your Foot- which means to lift up his foot/paw so i can get his leash.Other side- this command pretty much makes him remember to untangle from trees, light posts, fire hydrants, etc. These simple commands are useful and make your life as a dog owner a lot easier. I trained him because I want to make my life easier. If my life is easier, he will have a much better time bonding with me, in the end, both of us are happier.
I personally think, that all dog breeds are great and we shouldn't categorize them as good or bad. Every breed has it's own characteristics, temperament or needs and during selection for the perfect breed for us, we really should take into consideration dog's natural behaviour and instinct and double check if we can match our lifestyle with dog's nature.
ReplyDeleteSome years ago my life has been blessed with great opportunity - for almost a year I was taking care of my brother's dog - Samoyed named Fellow. And since then I can't imagine having any other dog breed. Samoyeds look like young polar bears - midle sized, perfectly white, fluffy clouds filled with joy, pure happines, intelligence and patience. They're working dogs from Syberia, but treats it's human like part of the herd. Very kids\family friendly. They love being outside and need a lot of attention and work.
As you mentioned, Border Collie is a shepherd dog - it requires being more inteligent and caring than some of the typical breeds with home/indoor reccomendations. I do belive that hard working breeds could be a little bit more intelligante than the breeds that don't have to guard/work with other animals
As I said before, my heart belongs to the Samoyed, so I don't think about getting Border Collie, even though I do appreciate this breed. Also, I don't think I'm capable enough to train dogs. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication for both sides.
This breed is in fact very intelligent and it's potential is already adored by many. For sure it's a dog for an active person who could take care of this amazing companion properly.
You could say I don't have a favorite breed of dog, I like all dogs equally. However, if I were to choose one race, it would be either the Shiba Inu or the Samoyed. Shiba Inu mainly because I saw these funny and characteristic dogs on the Internet, I remember them mainly from memes about "doge". I chose Samoyed as the second candidate because my grandmother had such an individual on her plot. The breed is known for its great friendliness to children, willingness to play and energy.
ReplyDeleteI have heard that German Shepherds are a very intelligent type of dog. They are used for special tasks by various services: detect substances, accompany police actions, etc. They are extremely intelligent and very brave, while being faithful and obedient friends of their owners.
I don't think Border Collies are dogs for me because I'm not very energetic myself or do any sports. Additionally, I live in a block of flats, so such a dog would not be able to use its energy. I also think that I would not have had time to mentally stimulate such a dog as they need a lot of attention.
I'm convinced that the Border Collie breed boldly deserves the title of the smartest dogs in the world. I am impressed by their dedication, obedience and having such temperament and willingness to play. How quickly and effortlessly they learn new things only proves it.
my favorite breed is dachshunds. They are long, cute and funny. They have hair like otters and smell good. i love dachshunds. I haven't heard of intelligent dog breeds. I wonder if they managed to drive cars? Do you think they would be better than AI?
ReplyDeleteWould you like to own a border collie? Would you be interested in training dogs?
No. I wish I had a dachshund.
I like doggie movies, especially those where dogs do funny things and wear funny clothes. Have you seen a video of dachshunds running across the grass dressed as hot dogs? I guess it's some old Heinz ad for a superbowl. I highly recommend!
My great-grandmother had a dachshund, but it was old and smelled. In my opinion, cute videos are with korga dogs. These dogs are very funny because they look like someone has joined the head of a shepherd dog with the body and feet of a dachshund. They also have funny butts. 🤭
DeleteYEAH! they have funny butts. They look a bit like dachshunds but with long hair, a different color and a funny ass. they are generally cool, but I prefer dachshunds.
DeleteBTW I LOVE THIS CONTENT!!! ❤️
ReplyDeletePrzemek, I am very happythat you ejnoyed my article! :) If you know any fun facts about any dog breed, please don't hesitate to share it with us :)
Delete1. Which dog breed is your favorite and why?
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dog breed is long coated german shepherd. Why? Because they look majestic, they are intelligent and most important they are fluffy (which is important especially now in cold nights :) ).
2. Have you heard of other intelligent dog breeds?
Yes, I've heard about Belgian Malinois, which are known for fast decision making, intelligence and concentration. That's why they are widely used in police force and army.
3. Would you like to own a border collie? Would you be interested in training dogs?
I like their looks but I'm not a good owner for this kind of dogs because I'm a couch potato and i live in a flat in area without parks/forests/etc. So I could not use all energy that that breed needs.
I tried to train my german shepard (very stubborn one) at first by myself and later with professional dog trainer, but after trainer said that dog is untrainable I gave up :)
4. If you saw the attached videos, how did you like them? What do you think about the breed's potential and abilities?
I like them alot, especially that i love dogs ( by dog i mean dog thats height is minimum to my knee - rest are dog-a-likes in my opinion ;) ) There in no other words to describe this breed as amazing :)
I love dogs very much, in general I love all animals, but if I had to choose between a cat and a dog, then the cat has no chances xD although if I had an opportunity to have only a cat, then I would gladly get one. I know a lot about these wonderful animals, read different materials, watched different documentaries and TV series, in one of these some experienced Russian dog handler traveled around the world and introduced the viewer to many different breeds of dogs. Each episode is about a different breed and there are quite a lot of episodes, more than a hundred if I'm not mistaken.
ReplyDeleteI can talk for a long about dogs, one of my favorite breeds is the Rottweiler, although I would be happy to get even a simple mongrel, mbd.
I am also saddened by the crossbreeding of animals (not only dogs but cats as well) to obtain "decorative" breeds. Because of this, dogs such as dwarf breeds often have birth defects, which is what they suffer from.
I've always liked the Capuchin monkey too xD
To be honest, I'm a fan of all animals too :) However, I wouldn't have enough courage to have a Rodwailer. I have too soft heart and this dog's breed must have a firm owner.
Delete1.Which dog breed is your favorite and why?
ReplyDeleteMy favourite breed is mongrels. They are healthier than purebred dogs and very smart. Each of them is unique, they can be descended from a mixture of different breed.
2.Have you heard of other intelligent dog breeds?
No I haven't heard about intelligent dog breeds. But it's seem very interesting.
3.Would you like to own a border collie? Would you be interested in training dogs?
There is not too much work to be put into training them, they are very supportive dogs. Actually, I trained my dog in a school that is very useful and I recommend it to everyone!
4. If you saw the attached videos, how did you like them? What do you think about the breed's potential and abilities?
Funny, my dog enjoys watching competitions with me. I think there is many breeds pleased to participate in challenge like that.
I also love mongrels - I think all mongrels are very cute!! :)
DeleteThis question is quite easy for me as I have a dog myself. It is a Staffy and of course Staffordshire Bull Terrier is my favourite breed :).
ReplyDeleteAs I know, German shepherds are very intelligent dogs, as well as Rottweilers.
It is hard to say whether I would like to own a Border Collie or not. In general I love dogs, almost all breeds but I have never considered a Border Collie as a dog for me. As far as I know there are competitions for bull type breeds. One of them is weight pulling, it is a very interesting way to spend time with a dog and to take care of its health and well-being.
These videos are really interesting and the fact that Border Collies are so good in Agility series is so impressive. I saw some competitions and I must say Border Collies are hard to baet!
My favorite breed of dog is husky, few years back I worked as a volunteer in a dog shelter, and one dog I was taking the most care of was a husky mix, I loved him so much I wanted to adopt him, but I moved to my own place too late and he got adopted (I travelled with him from Warsaw to Cracow by train to deliver him to his new family which turned out to be amazing people with a big backyard and I loved it for him). After moving to my house I adopted mine husky from a shelter too and he turned out to be the most amazing dog I've ever met.
ReplyDeleteI've heard about them of course, and I include every dog who is trained as a police dog, service dogs and many other not only trained with a purpose to help others.
I would love to own any dog! :D I tried training mine but he is too stubborn to do anything since I got him while he was about 2 years old.
The videos were really interesting and as a breed I knew they were trained for pasture purpose.
I am the owner of a 4-month Beagle, so the answer about my favorite breed is clear. There are many diverse opinions about Beagles. But I am convinced that this is one of the smartest, fastest, and most lovable breeds of dogs. They aren't yappy dogs, but they do have three distinct vocalizations — a growl, a baying howl, and a half-baying howl. Beagle is a hunting breed, so vocalizations help them to communicate with their owner or other beagles when them hunting.

I think that most breeds of dogs are intelligent. Fundamentally it depends on how much time you spend with your dog.
I am training with my puppy for at least one hour every day. I like this process. For my dog it is a good way to have a great time with me Instead I am very happy with his success.
I have never had a dog, I really like them though! I think I’m more of a cat person, dogs are really demanding, time consuming and they are much more bigger responsibility. I’m not sure if I have a favorite dog breed but if I had to choose, I’ll go with pug or shiba inu. I think pugs are cute and I really like shiba inu memes with them 😊. As for the border collie, I’m not if I would be a good owner, I wouldn’t be able to pay as much attention to it as needed.
ReplyDeleteI’m an owner of a ten-year-old Pekingese and I have to say it’s my favorite dog breed.
ReplyDeleteI’ve heard that German Shepherd and Golden Retriever are very intelligent breeds.
Taking into consideration, that my favorite dog breed is Pekingese, and these dogs are kinda lazy and sleepy all the time I have to say, that owning a border collie wouldn’t be the best idea. I prefer a friendly company rather than a trained, requiring constant activity dog.
The breed’s potential and abilities are incredible! However, I feel that training such a dog requires lots of time and attention and it’s not meant for everyone. But seeing the potential I think even hard work pays off.
My always loved breed of dog is a pug. I know that there aren’t many humans over there that think like me but in my opinion they’re the most adorable and cute creatures on a whole world.
ReplyDeleteIn fact actually no, unfortunately i was never very interested in dog breeds.
I think i will stay with my beloved pugs. Never, i think that dog trainings are not very humanitarian.
I think that this breed is the most loyal one. They’re very smart and full of empathy. I also think that they’re very good companion for any exercise and because of lovely attitude they could be the best roomates you could ever had.
Before this post I knew very little about this breed but I knew they are highly intelligent. I think I couldn’t have one because they require a lot of attention and training. Maybe if I live on a country side and have a herd of sheep :) my dog is quite smart and it’s a mixed breed (I call it polterrier) and I need to give her a lot of attention. When I look up intelligent toys for dogs in Internet there’s always a border collie that is in commercials and presentations of those toys. I don’t know any other intelligent dog breed
ReplyDelete1. My favourite breed is German Shepherd. I really old-fashioned at this point. This breed is all I love they are smart and brave at once. German Shepherd is this kind of dogs which has this primal look.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, it's not the first time I heard about dogs intelligent breeds. I saw short documentary about Chaser (Border Collie with the largest tested memory of any non-human animal) and my friend has two Border Collie which are very intelligent too
3. I'm going to have German Shepherd puppy in January so decision has been made a long time ago. I take all disadvantage and advantage and taking all responsibility I cannot decide otherwise. Before I decide to have a dog I set myself a task to well train this dog.
4. I saw many videos about intelligent dogs. I was looking for this kind of video after I decide about taking dog
1. My favourite are crossbreed dogs, these are dogs taken from the shelter, of unknown origin. In my opinion, these are dogs with the best features. Usually, breed dogs have some genetic diseases, or some related to the colouring or acquired. Dogs that have lived in the shelter for some time and are the crossroads of many breeds are definitely more resistant to diseases and infections.
ReplyDelete2. One of the most intelligent breeds is certainly German Shepherd Dogs - they are dogs who working in the police, so they must be extremely intelligent. Another breed is definitely Labradors, which mainly work with blind people and take part in therapies for people with some dysfunctions. I think you could choose such a top 10 smartest dogs, however, in my opinion every dog is smart, and I have the impression that some of them reign over the human race :)
3. I can tell you, what I do not have any favourite breed of dog. I would definitely like to have a dog! No matter what. I am not interested in training, because I train my pets myself and I know that it is not easy, but it requires a lot of commitment and time.
4. I have seen a lot of movies showing dogs' intelligence and every time I see new ones with new tricks. Dogs are amazing and how they can cooperate with us. Each time I am interested in exploring the farthest corners of a dog's brain, but unfortunately I am not a scientist.
My favorite breed of dog is the German Shepherd. For a simple reason. I have a German Shepherd :) She is all black and her name is Mamba :)
ReplyDeleteShe is also very smart. I went to training with her for several months. Unfortunately, when she was 7 months old, the lockdown began and the training was suspended. We've been practicing alone for almost a year now. Maybe he is not the most well-behaved dog in the world, but he is my sweet little dodger :)
I once saw a border collie in the mountains. One of the lift workers had one. Every day he got on the chairlift and they went up together. The guy just showed the dog to sit next to him and he jumped on. It was obvious that he was a very clever and brave dog.
