Week 6 CORONA LIKE THE NEW 9/11

CORONA LIKE THE NEW 9/11

It is already quite clear to everyone, that the corona epidemic will influence the world like no every event in the last years.

Some people already compare it to the next 9/11. Within a few years after the attacks in New York suddenly airports started to become emptier, you could realize that a lot fewer people are travelling.

I think it could be pretty imaginable, that in the next years the post-corona trauma will persist and people will be afraid of leaving their homes or countries.

Some people mention that this is like 9/11, but this time in every country in the world. Do you find this comparison appropriate?

https://seekingalpha.com/article/120335-domestic-air-travel-lowest-since-postminus-9-11

It is a pretty scary perspective, as the airline industry is responsible for 1 in 10 jobs worldwide.

This crisis is already the biggest one in airline history. It is anticipated, that now most people will wait 6-7 months before they even think about travelling. Of course, young people will still want to travel. However, with many countries implementing mandatory quarantine, travelling will face
more obstacles than before. So maybe 2020 will the year of domestic travels rather long-distance excursions.

Which attitude towards panic do you support? Do you think people live happily and actively after this crisis? Will they combat the fear ? or will overcaution dominate? Will people during the next years
be a lot more cautious with their endeavours.

Behavioural physiologic anticipate that fear could kill the economies in the upcoming years. People
will be less inclined to even leave their homes, a more domesticated lifestyle will be favoured.

After the attacks on 9/11 Americans noticed that the country become much a "police state". The government started to have a lot more power and influence. In the name of safety the government
started to interfere into citizens lives a lot more extensively.

We might predict that governments will go in the same direction now towards citizens health issues. Governments agendas will now overview citizens health, violation it in a way, that could have been viewed as an attack on privacy before. Mandatory health checks might become common. The
the government might create a public database for gathering information about the citizen's health.
Suspicious individuals will be kept on a close watch or forced to change their place of living.

1. For how many years ahead you think the effects of the coronavirus will stretch for? Do you think they will temporary or long-lasting?

2. Do you think, that airports will now become noticeably less filled with people? Do you think people will now abstain from public events? Do you think the fear of the virus is higher than the fear
of terrorism.

3. Do anticipate that from now on governments will impose much more restrictions on citizens
by implementing, for example, mandatory vaccines?

  1. In my opinion, people will forget about this pandemic as soon as possible and after some time airports will look like they used to, also public events will attract a lot of people - people who want normality, but I can be wrong because I mainly watch young people who are tired of restrictions so much that sometimes their approach is too risky and irresponsible. I'm most afraid that isolation and economic effects can cause long-term frustration in society. I think people are tired of the current situation so much that further restrictions created by the government may be too much for them.

  2. Haha, it's hard for me to answer the question, what approach to panic do I support?, because I think that panic always comes to irrational actions and judgments. It seems to me that as long as the situation is not under control all over the world, coronavirus will continue to be part of our everyday life. At this moment the most knowledgeable scientists are unable to guarantee what will happen in the near future.

People on airports and other forms of mass transport will be more careful for sure. Public events are slowly coming back to our lives, but they are organized in new restrictions, allowing for safe entertainment.

Is fear of the virus stronger than fear of terrorism? I have not heard of the comparison of the current pandemic with the events of 9/11. They don't seem particularly accurate to me, so I can't answer that question either.

I believe, as with other diseases, no one can be forced to heal and take medication. However, we should not underestimate both our health and others. I think that being aware of being an asymptomatic virus carrier can save other people lives. 💙

  3. I think the coronavirus effect will last until the end of the year. People were very afraid... until the bars were opened. As soon as that happened, they were all full of people (eg Bar Pacifik or Plan B). They also stopped wearing hygiene masks as soon as possible. At airports, it will take a while longer. Unless the virus strikes again...

It is hard for me to compare the fear of terrorism with the fear of the virus. Probably people are more afraid of the virus now. I don't think restrictions on people last long. But mandatory vaccines would be a good solution in my opinion. I also hope that people will pay more attention to hygiene and hand washing. And that these habits will stay with us for longer. What will definitely stay with us is that "2020 was the worst year ever". 😂

  4. In my opinion, the coronavirus effect may persist for several years to come. Due to its social effects, the disease will probably stay in the minds of people for longer.

It is difficult to assess whether the number of people at airports will change. On the one hand, air travel can be significantly reduced, especially to countries with the highest virus emissions. In turn, social quarantine can arouse an even greater desire to travel in society. When it comes to public events, everything will return to normal before the virus is released.

Further restrictions and orders that are introduced to protect citizens' health against COVID-19 may be an ideal excuse for those in power to achieve their political goals or the desire for power.

  5. I think the 9/11 to covid comparison is very out of place - a terrorist attack that was unpredictable, was the result of human action is something completely different from the pandemic that erupted in many countries at different times, which gave time to some countries to prepare. The current situation is difficult, but I think it cannot be compared to a terrorist attack that has shaken the whole world.

It is hard to say. It seems to me that the approach will be different - depending on the country and also on the people themselves. I think that this should be approached, as with everything - with common sense. I think that excessive caution can be harmful, because many people will avoid life. At the same time, some caution is advisable - there will still be places where there is a risk of infection and you need to keep this in mind. Some people will definitely be choked by the lack of restrictions, but I think that this should not be dangerous in Poland - most people have shown that they handle this problem with due responsibility.

I think the effects will be long-lasting. First of all - short-term, like dealing with direct effects, and among long-term ones, certainly a lesson and to draw conclusions to be prepared for similar situations in the future. I believe that one of the next steps should be to review the procedures and resources to see if the country is surely prepared for various unexpected but somehow anticipated situations.

I think that fear of a virus and fear of terrorist attacks are completely different things. Fear of terrorist attacks, in countries like Poland - unattractive to terrorists - is somewhat unreasonable. Fear of a pandemic that is wreaking havoc also in Poland is the most natural and justified.

There is already a list of compulsory vaccinations, but I do not think that it will expand - compulsory vaccinations should be free, and our government, for example, does not like to contribute to health protection, so they certainly will not do it.

  6. 1. For how many years ahead you think the effects of the coronavirus will stretch for? Do you think they will temporary or long-lasting?

I think that we didn't saw economic impact yet so it's hard to guess how it would be like and for how long it would stay with us but unfortunately experts predict that it won't be a short-easy one. Anyway, we all should take a lesson from what happened because it's highly possible that it or anything similar will repeat.

    2. Do you think, that airports will now become noticeably less filled with people? Do you think people will now abstain from public events? Do you think the fear of the virus is higher than the fear of terrorism?

I think that more and more people are calm down about the virus and I don't think that it will stop them from participating in various events or trips but at this stage we don't know enough so as I previously mentioned "everything can happened" and next wave might be more dangerous and we'd struggle more.

    3. Do anticipate that from now on governments will impose much more restrictions on citizens by implementing, for example, mandatory vaccines?

What we can see around the world more and more countries, at least officially, are making statements that possible vaccines won't be mandatory but what they said and what will happened might be totally opposite. I don't think that society is threaten enough to agree for mandatory vaccines nowdays.

  7. I think it is going to last for a long time. Not strictly the pandemic but the damages that it caused to world economy. A lot of companies are struggling and it is very hard to find a job and it seems that it is not going to change soon.
As I heard that companies that offer flights are in a hard situation since all of the flights are cancelled and people will be scared to travel to other countries because we don’t know how the situation looks outside our country. But people are getting less stressed about pandemic situations and start to stop caring about it. I think terrorism got overshadowed by this situation and it is not so much publicized.

For me the restrictions will fade soon as it gets more common and people are less and less scared of it.

  8. I think the effects of the coronavirus will be long-lasting and stretch for many years ahead. I think the probability indicates that a virus that has spread so quickly has got higher chances to appear than the terrorist attack, so I assume the fear of the virus is higher than the fear of terrorism. Before COVID-19 the airports were filled with people even tough the possibility of a terrorist attack was always present. I think people will abstain from public events as long as they are sure they are all safe. At least this is how I imagine people should think about it. Yes, I guess the vaccines will be mandatory and in my opinion governments should definitely implement some restrictions to our everyday lives in order to make us feel safe.

  9. As Agnieszka said, I think people will forget behaviour during pandemic as soon as they can. Even now when we have hundreds of new confirmed cases, people want to 'back to normal'. For sure, this pandemic would have an impact on worldwide economic which would be long-lasting.
I think that comparision pandemic to terrorism is out of line... these two situations cannot be compared. Referring to airports I think that in the beginning the restrictions would cause this places less-crowded. But in the course of time everything would look like before COVID.

  10. In my opinion, the biggest impact of whole pandemic was on the beginning and everything that will come after that will work like butterfly effect. There might be seen for now only temporary side effect but in few years we can actually got hit by ricochet from this event.
At first I was sure that tourism will stop for this year at least and maybe in upcoming year as well. But after tracking international news it seems that everyone already forgot about the virus and is only waiting for borders to open. I think that there will be maybe 10 or 15 percent less toursits in current season and that's all.
Currently I don't think about this. I don't have too much opinion on topics like that as my knowledge is not enough to say anything more on this.

  13. Yesterday my dad told me that one of his favorite hotel went bankrupt. My favorite shot-bar is out of business as well. This situation is very hard for self-employment and for people with their own companies. So I think we will feel impact of Covid for long time. I’m not afraid about the virus if everyone is keeping social distance and follow the rules. I don’t want to take part in discussion about vaccines.

  14. I think the economic consequences of the pandemic will continue to last for at least a few years. It is difficult to judge how many exactly, but the crisis we are dealing with is currently the largest for nearly a hundred years.
I don't know what the fear level of other people is because I have met extreme reactions. Some people are afraid to leave the house, while others say that all these restrictions are not justified. Personally, I'm somewhere in between.
I am afraid that coronavirus may be an excuse for governments to impose additional restrictions and requirements on citizens.

  15. I think it's mostly going to be temporary and last for year or two but I also believe there are some aspects that may last longer, for example work from home, which wasn't too popular before.
I don't think airports will get less filled. The coronavirus is still spreading in Poland so people are cautious now but I believe people will forget about this event in the few years and keep living as always.
It could happen, since our government try to use every opportunity to do something to complicate people's life. I doubt it's going to help, though, because some random vaccines wouldn't really help against unfamiliar viruses like COVID-19.

  16. I think that the effects of the coronavirus will be long-lasting. After six months, we still don't know how to live with that problem properly without keeping people in their houses. We try to go back to normal life, but some government's decisions are meaningless for me and also people quickly forgot that epidemic is still lasting and think that they can give up all precautions. We can't compare virus with terrorism, but I think that especially younger people will try to go back to normal so airports probably won't be as overcrowded as before, but also many people will return to travelling. I don't want to share my opinion about government restrictions and mandatory vaccines, because I know this is a sensitive topic and there are many people with radical views.

  17. I'm afraid this pandemic state will be long lasting and we will be affected by the repercussions of coronavirus crisis even longer. I guess the only change could come with the discovery of vaccines and a cure for coronavirus. Probably people will be more cautious for the next years and we will observe some changes in traveling, healthcare systems, gatherings etc but as a society we will adapt. Probably there will be a lot of innovations in those segments, like vaccines, new regulations, new devices and tests to diagnose easier and faster. I think people are more afraid of terrorism than virus as it's more violent and brutal and virus can be cured. I believe we will sort the coronavirus crisis more effectively without panic and by respecting WHO recommendations.

  18. I think we will see the effects of covid for a long time, years probably. It is too soon to predict the exact time but in my opinion it will not be a short period.
In my opinion airports will be much less filled with people. It is easy to see how much people around the world are scaried. Although airports will slowly fill with time.
Governments for sure will do something. Especially USA government should act somehow. Personally, I think plenty of countries will just follow USA politics.

  19. This is a taft question. I'm not an economist and I'm afraid that I can only base on my assumptions. The changes will be certainly long-lasting and I count on it!

For me personally, the COVID-19 self-imposed quarantine has received a lot of positive effects.
Just, I don't want to talk about, to much is it on TV and websites.

Hard to say. This is a fresh thing. It may be that in the summer season will be less fortified and "mass" events will but for the winter season we will welcome again lock down - this is only my guess.

Nowadays there are none room to let in ChaƂupy a month ahead so it seems to me that some people are not afraid. :D

    It depends.

This question is difficult to answer.

  20. I think these restrictions will stay with us for longer. However, even experts do not know how long it can be.
I think it's good for our planet if people would fly less and use the benefits of video conferencing more often. I think that changing people's habits will stay with us much longer than the restrictions themselves. I do not see the connection between the virus and terrorism.
I guess the government will not decide to introduce mandatory vaccination for the virus, because that would cause huge opposition from a large part of the population.

  21. 1. In my opinion, the coronavirus will become a civilization disease and over time it will behave like the flu. People will become periodically ill and will be treated with antibiotics like in flu cases. In addition, most people will produce natural antibodies in their bodies to help fight with the coronavirus.
    2. It's hard to tell how airports, public events or gatherings will look like. The situation changes from day to day and it's really hard to predict anything. In my opinion, people will continue to fly, because it is the fastest way of transport, and with the right procedures you can avoid illness. Public events will also take place, but a large amount of participants and organizators will pay attention to cleanliness and appropriate disinfectants for public toilets or items that are constantly being touched by different people.
    3. In my opinion, vaccines have always been a good means of controlling many diseases and not without any reason they were invented. In my opinion, some vaccines should be mandatory to protect the least resistant organisms such as the elderly and children from infection. It is similar for children who are given a package of vaccines at an early stage of development to make them immune.

  22. I think it's all coming back to normal soon. When I look at people in shops, parks, public transport, I don't see scared people, on the contrary.

Most people will spend their holidays in their countries this year. The beach will probably be full anyway. Also planes may actually be less used, but the Polish economy may recover a little thanks to this.

In my opinion, restrictions are better than those infected almost the entire society.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Definitely effects of coronavirus will stay with us for a long time. This virus wont magically disappear, people will get immune to this specific virus and vaccines will be distributed, but virus will remain.
This is not such a danger virus for the most of people. I'm 100% sure that terrorism makes me more uncertain. The main thing that stops me and my friends from travelling right now is not virus but temporary local law at possible travel destinations like mandatory quarantine or tests. It's not worth to risk travelling just to spend 2 weeks closed in hotel room.
I think that that depends on country, a lot of them certainly will do it.
