Week 7 (15-21.06.2015) Flair

Flair

Flair” is a show during which bartenders juggle bottles with alcohol, glasses, ice or barmans tools. Fireshow is synchronized with music. It is not only “l’art pour l’art”, but a cocktail is always a final result of it :) Here is an example of such a show.

Surprised? Well, such a presentation takes a long time to prepare. But hold on, we need to start somewhere, right? :)

First of all, we should know something about the types of glasses that are necessary to prepare certain kinds of liquors.

These are the basic types that we should have in our cupboards if we want to impress our guests. Of course there are many more of them such as an Irish Coffee glass or a Pimms mug.

Another step to prepare yourself before making superior drinks is to organize basic tools. I will mention a few of them so you will be able to choose the most suitable for you! A Blender: with a cup from the upper side, needed for fruit & vegetable purée, cocktail preparation made of ingredients hard to mix together, whipped cream. It isnt a bad idea to have one, because it might replace a shaker. There are three main kinds of shakers. The Boston Shaker: A two-piece shaker with a metal bottom and a glass or a plastic mixing glass; The Cobbler Shaker: A three-piece cocktail shaker that has tapers at the top and ends with a built-in strainer and includes a cap and The French Shaker: A two-piece shaker consisting of a metal bottom and a metal cap. A knife which  allows you to cut fruit and vegetables easily.

Here are some tools which will come in handy preparing alcoholic beverages.
                                                                                                   http://s1.fotowrzut.pl/YUJO3SQV13/3.jpg

We often hear that drinking e.g. whisky with cola is not permitted, or makes no sense at all. Well, here are some basic examples of mixing different kinds of alcohol. Vodka tastes good with Vermouth and Campari, but cannot go with gin or champagne. Another one is classic whisky, which doesn’t like Campari, Pernod, Gin, Vodka, Rum, Tequila, Cognac and cream of coconut, but could go (worse or better) with the rest of alcoholic beverages and even fruit juices or (which is often mentioned) coke that suits it really well.

Right now we can start preparing our favorite drink! :) I could give you some recipes to start somewhere, however, I strongly recommend doing some research and test your favorite ones on your own! I enjoy it so much that I cannot stop looking for new flavors, colors and ways of preparing beverages!

When you achieve a certain level of bartenders skills, you could try to make some effective tricks like professionals do. It requires some patience and some additional bottles as well (trust me, Ive tried once and a whole wall was covered with curaçao! :D). There is a link to a basic trick which allows us to develop it into a series of impressive moves, enjoy!

Week 7: The Witcher 3 (Wild Hunt)

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

This is the third game of the series called "The Witcher” which (as you probably know) is a Polish production. The company which has created this game is a "CD Projekt Red." Its headquarters are located in Warsaw on Jagiellońska 74 street.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Killing Monsters Cinematic Trailer:

I decided to write about this game because I’m really interested in a process of creating  computer games and this one is a unique part of Witcher.

The premiere of the "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" took place on 19th of May this year. But the number of pre-orders had exceeded one and a half million copies! It is a great prove how good we are in making games. It is already one of the biggest successes in a game production in Poland and around the world. There is no doubt that the Witcher will compete with the best games in 2015.

Last Monday, at about 11:50 am, CD Projekt’s share price was at 25.23 PLN. It was a spectacular record in the history of this company. Thanks to this CDP it was promoted to the the elite group of 50 most valuable Polish companies listed on the WSE.

I chose this topic, not only because it is a really great success for the whole Poland, but also because I have always wanted to create my own computer game. And it would be great if it was as successful as this one.

Here you can watch the official game play, it lasts 35min:

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Official Gameplay (35 min):

Since the premiere of the Witcher people and media have started to talk about video games and the Polish potential in this business. It is said that on our national market gaming industry is worth approx. 230 US dollars and a worldwide $ 80 billion. So it's very profitable.

I think in Poland computer games are mainly associated with addiction and  a waste of time. I hope this game will change this perception. Especially that even the American President, Barack Obama, mentioned the  new CD Projekt RED's production and praised its success.

We need to stop thinking that video games are extremely dangerous and focus on benefits.
Of course, games can be a terrible addiction but I like to look at them in a different way I think it's some kind of art, you can admire the details and effects of work of many people. The process of creating the game is very long, for example, for the third part of the Witcher we waited for about 4 years.

This game showed many people how the game industry is underrated. In my opinion, it would be a great loss for the Polish economy if we did not use its potential. I'm really interested in your opinions about that. Do you think we can be leaders in this business? Or it was just a fluke that the Witcher became so famous?

Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to play this game yet. That’s why, ( if someone was a lucky player) I’m really interested in your impressions about The Witcher.

Week 7 (15-21.06.2015) The strangest Guinness World records

The strangest and the most surprising

Guinness World records

I guess that everyone heard about the Guinness Book of Records
In my presentation I will focus on the most extraordinary ones.
Let’s start from the very beginning!

Definition and short history

Guinness Book of Records is an information book, which contains proved world records.
The history started on 10 November 1951 when Sir Hugh Beaver, who was the marketing director of the Guinness Breweries, went on a shooting party in the North Slob, by the River Slaney in County Wexford, Ireland.Sir Hugh Beaver started to wonder which bird is the fastest in Europe.
He knew that kind of information should be confirmed.
Beaver’s idea became reality in August 1954, when The Guinness Book of Records was printed. I will present three most incredible Guinness World records.

1. Chainsaw juggling:Ian Stewart

The photo shows Ian Stewart of North River who 94 times juggled with three chain saws - breaking the Guinness. Photo: Hary Sullivan A record breaker says "I love juggling chainsaws. I would probably rather juggle chainsaws than do other objects. I know that's a little weird, but I really enjoy the noise, I like the action of it and I like that they're so big when I'm throwing them."

Strange, but impressive isn’t it? If you are interested, watch the video.

2. Planes connoisseur: Michel Lotito

Michel Lolito is a French entertainer, famous for..eating stuff like bicycles, chandeliers, television receivers and also planes!
Michel’s stomach is most likely built different than an average person’s stomach; that’s the reason of his abilities.

Here is a collection of things which have been eaten by "Mr Eat-All"

A picture below shows Michel’s biggest eating achievement: he has eaten Cessna 150. For me that record is completely unbelievable!

3. Barefoot through the world: Michael Essing

Michael Essing is a German record-holder who walked 1488 kilometres without shoes!
His amazing journey lasted three months and one day.The man walked almost the whole country, starting in Flensburg in Northern Germany, finishing at the Swiss border. Michael’s reason of walking barefoot such an enormous distance was... need to do something really crazy!
Did he reach his goal in your opinion?
What is your view about beating a Guinness records?
Which record impressed you the most?
