  1. I think that as of 2018 it might be too early to make grand assumptions how can machine learning change our lives because the technology behind it started to be recognisable just a few years ago. It surely is a powerful tool which can be applied in many fields but it's hard to tell if it is going to develop rapidly and be used in 'human focused' domains such as management.

  2. I always feel strange reading this kind of article, because I suddenly realize that I’m permanently followed. I couldn’t help feeling that technology is now used to manipulate us. Data are collected to make us to do something, which is not in our interest. But it still fascinates me how to make such intelligent algorithms.

    1. I agree with you. As it was written in the article “...algorithms have become increasingly advanced, they may start knowing us better than we know ourselves”. That’s even really scary. I know that technology development, algorithms and technological processes automation is something inevitable, but it is also totally unpredictable. I don’t see any procedures or tools for controlling this development. What if machine learning will be used by ‘bad guys’. Who will protect people? I have ambivalent feelings about it. It’s obvious for me that it could be a milestone in medicine. On the other hand, I’m not so sure what it could bring us in military area.

According to the article I think it won’t make me a better manager. The vast part of my work is based on my experience, knowledge and intuition. Machine learning will help me by bringing more data to make decision but will not make decision instead of me.

  3. In my opinion machine learning is one of the most interesting "Technologies" of out times.
It enables a computer to simulate thousands and thousands of cases to find the best solution - it's like light speed evolution.
As the computating power will increase and AI technology will develop i think we will se it's impact in every aspect of our lives.
From cars to health care. I can't wait to see AI tools be as easy and well known as eg. Java.
As everything AI also have downsides. Thanks to AI companies could predict your every move and would know about you way more than you would like them to.
Of course there is a scenario where AI will be our doom but I don't know what to think about it. For now AI adventages and capabilities makes it hottest tech topic.

  4. Machine learning nowadays developes exponentially. It surely will enhance branch of management. There are positive applications, as solving traffic problems, but there are also negative ones, as spying on customers. I am afraid where this all will come to. Technology is getting incredible and more and more similar to magic. And magic is power. And power can easily overwhelm people, because either people will control power, or power will control people. To not let this happen people have to be mature, wise and strong, as single persons and as a couminity. Unfortunatelly nor of these is present in these days.

    1. I'm totally agree with you! It's all about how we'll use developed abilities of technology. Unfortunately we can assume that negative impact is much more visible these days, so in my opinion the point is not to stop exploring new ways of implementing technology but at some point try to control it. Probably in most cases it's not possible anymore but at least we should try to prevent similar actions in the future.

  5. I think that there's a lot of cases where machine learning can help, it's already used in language recognition, driverless cars or even in playing games, but whenever you open article about it on some casual media sites, there's always some concerns about AI taking over the world or violating our privacy, so I bet that soon people will realize that there's an easy way to make AI look stupid, just by breaking some of your lifetime patterns: you used to go to shop every monday - go on a random day, you used to watch comedies - watch horror movie etc. I'm predicting that soon it will become some kind of community group that will connect people around the world just to do that things.
I think that it can make you not only a better manager, but a better person if you use it wisely.

  6. For me, machine learning is the most interesting technology. I plan to use artificial intelligence in my master's thesis. I think that possibility that gives us are infinite. I have to admit that one part of the article really scared me. A story about pregnant girl shows how much the machines know about us. It’s rightly noted that the border is important. Companies must know how to use machine learning without breaking moral boundaries. Wisely used AI can produce really great results.

  8. It seems to me that more and more often we will use algorithm-based solutions. How quickly will it develop? Hard to say.
It may also be that for the next 10 years we will not make a big difference and it may be that some breakthrough will take place over the next few years.
All the time we're working on artificial intelligence.
Is working on algorithms that analyze the mood is the next step to humanizing artificial intelligence?

  9. In the near future, whether we like it or not, most things will be done by machines or robots.
Artificial intelligence is constantly being developed. it will certainly make everyday life easier, but will not it make it more difficult?
I don't like the fact that we are constantly watched by, for example, telephones, cameras, etc.

  10. First time I heard of machine learning was a video that showed an algorithm that played snake game by itself. The program was getting better and better with every game it played. I didn't know how it worked by was amazed by the results.
Machine learning is and will be the next big trend in technology. There are almost no limits of use this technology. With right knowledge and algorithms we can create amazing conclusions.
Will it make you a better manager? Definitely. If you understand how machine learning works it can be very beneficial to the company, especially how it uses and processes the data.

  11. I realize that we, users, are constantly being tracked on the internet. Our clicks are recorded and then the content displayed is matched to our tastes. Sometimes I have the impression that I am talking to another person about a product, face to face, and then I see the advertisement of this product on the screen of my phone. The first thing that comes to my mind is that someone had to overhear our conversation. Because of that I feel insecure on the internet and I still feel observant. Looking from the other side, it's fascinating that technology can tell faster if a woman is pregnant than she is.

  12. One of purpose of technology is to help people make good decision and machine learning is great example of this tendency. There were many decision support systems long before machine learning become so popular as it is today. So it just one way of making it - basing software on machine learning which should help to decide what choice would be best for us.

  13. With AI rapid growth I think that in the next 10 years it will be present in most of our life aspects and business domain is not an exception. It will enhance our productivity and give access to valuable informations that are not available right now. And while I don't know how much of the current hype around machine learning is valid, I believe it will have big impact on our society in the near future.

  14. ML is a very interesting topic and very hot now. Our moves are predicted, using statistics and some classifiers. It's all about balance, there are some actions that cannot be done by algorithms, especially in the filed of emotions etc. I think, as also stated in article, that whole ML topic and AI will evolve and will become a very important thing in every company. It's just cheaper, faster and sometimes better than humans.

  15. No doubt that machine learnining is one of the hottest topics in IT world for some time now. From my perspective, being analyzed by algorythms isn't that bad thing at all. They predict our behaviour and try to be one step ahead which leads to faster and smoother maintenance or service. Companies should definietely look for ML usage in their enviroment. I can't wait to see the real power of algorythms which will dominate our lives and make them easier. We should eliminate the possibility of human failure or at least keep it at the lowest possible level. We can not forgot that it's important to always have it under our - humans control. ML, AI, IoT will lead the world soon, wait for it.

  16. Machine learning is a technology that is rapidly developing nowadays. Based on statistics and algorithms it can help to solve many problems. It is already the main technology supporting such activities as automatic translation of texts or recognition of human speech. However, it is not faultless technology. In important systems on which health or human life may depend, the generated results should be inspected by human.

  17. We live in great times where everything seems possible. There are technologies that previous generation could only dream about. Machine learning is one of them. It can analyze and find patterns everywhere and it is actually easy to utilize. It may be like a knife – in someone’s hands dangerous – but if we use it wisely, we can make the world a little bit better and more comfortable. The part I don’t like about this vision, what worries me, is that algorithm may know me better than I am. What then? Will I be maximally manipulated in order to maximally utilize my personal resources, mind and vital strength? I think that if we don’t feel manipulated, then we probably are already.

  18. In my opinion "manager" is one of the most overused words. So I'll just focus on the managers that are responsible for the work of some other people.

Basically for now there are two kinds of those managers (obviously I may be oversimplifying, but for now I'll run with it). First ones are thinking about themselves as superiors, which also means that they don't see any valid reason to learn and grow. As such they will use machine learning only to save time and protect themselves from personal interactions with their subordinates.

But not all hope is lost, at least for those lucky enough to work with a good manager. A good (or at least decent manager) knows that for the most part he's there for his people and not the other way around. For him technology is not the easy way but another tool in his arsenal. He will use it to grow and bring the best out of his team.

To conclude. Will machine learning impact management? I think it will, as it'll most likely change our world. Will the impact be positive or negative? Both. The gap between the worst and the best will widen and I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to it.
