With the Internet
we made a technological leap in almost every aspect of our lives. For example,
we started using online banking instead of going to banks offices, writing
e-mails instead of sending letters, and we even started to work remotely.

is? (source: https://smartrak.com/what-is-iot/)
All things
mentioned above have one thing in common – all of them were made for our
convenience, but what will be next? In my opinion the Internet of Things (IoT)
will be the future trend in technology. But exactly what is an Internet of
Things?
In short, IoT
is a system of electronic devices that can automatically communicate and
exchange data over a network without human intervention. This is a very broad
concept, which includes an increasing number of smart home devices.
Devices
connected to the Internet already exist, and they become more and more popular every
year. Everyone at least heard about “smart” something – TV, fridges or washing
machines, but it is just a beginning, because most “smart” things are just
normal devices with the connection to the Internet and a few applications.
With technological progress companies are
trying to improve existing solutions (by connecting all devices in one
ecosystem) or develop new ones. For example, they allow giving remote access to
your home or a car to your friend or relative while you are away. Another
example is a smoke detector which can automatically notify you in many
ways (text messages, emails, app notifications) about fire and call for help.

Recently
Samsung presented on CES (Consumer Electronics Show) their vision of one of the
future ways where IoT can be used. You can check it below:
IoT is not
limited to consumer products only. Basically, it can be used in every aspect of
our lives. For example, in healthcare IoT can be used for real-time monitoring
of health condition during recovery after surgery. The help for people with pacemakers during a heart
attack may be delivered immediately. IoT
combined with 5G (which allows to have a connection with almost no latency)
enables a doctor, who is a specialist in rare conditions but is in another
country, to do surgeries remotely.
IoT also
drew attention of the military companies, which saw opportunities in that
technology. Soon, we will see things, that we have already watched in sci-fi
movies, in real life. Nowadays, the military is doing research on advanced
identification technology to be able to quickly recognize an enemy. They use
IoT devices to monitor soldiers’ physical and mental state, or even to
sync a soldier (using his biometric data) with a weapon in the way that only he
can use it.
More examples
of IoT usage you can find below:

As you can
see, there are many ways to use the Internet of Things and it can be applied in
various areas. This is just the beginning of interesting technology that will
have a great impact on our lives.
Questions:
1. What do you think about IoT?
2. Do you have any “smart” devices?
3. What kind of “smart” things that is
not available now, would be useful to you?

Internet of things has been always interesting for me. I’m a software developer and I’ve always thought about many great and crazy ideas but it hasn’t been so interesting for me. That’s why I’m programming business applications instead of crazy robots and devices. In my everyday life, I’m using some useful gadgets like sockets connected to wifi. I also have an intelligent speaker called ‘echo dot’ known as Alexa. Recently I’ve come up with a great idea to name one of my wifi sockets ‘Christmas’ and to connect all Christmas tree lights and different stuff to it. Then I had to say ‘Alexa, Christmas on’ and then all those ornaments were on. It was a pretty simple thing but had a great effect. The only concern that I have is the security of those devices.
ReplyDelete1. Certainly the idea of loT is great, however I am concerned about massive crashes. What if a particular application crashes or something breaks in it? Fixing a problem that controls most devices could be quite a challenge. It seems to me that in such a case there could also be scammers - hackers who will try to control us or our goods.
ReplyDelete2. Unfortunately, I am not that far ahead with technology. I don't own a TV and a smart watch is new technology to me. I also don't quite know how to use facebook or instagram, there are definitely some areas that I don't know and can't use. The vision of such a future and quite near seems to be interesting 😊
3. It's hard to say. I guess I would like a system that would automatically cook and clean for me, unfortunately I waste a lot of time on those activities during the whole week. How about some kind of automatic feeding of people? I never have enough time to eat so this is also a big problem for me.
I think cleaning solutions would be great. I don't like cleaning either but I think it will be possible when engineers will fix existing technology of electronic hands and interface to them.
Delete1.I like the concept of Internet of Things but they are many things that are disturbing about it. For example the fact that the corporations collect and use much more data about you if you use smart devices. The other thing is failure rate of IoT devices. I think it’s more likely that your smart fridge will brake than the regular one.
ReplyDelete2.As for the smart devices I only use smartphone and I recently started to use smartwatch. My earbuds have option to use google assistant, so I think they may be considered as a smart device, but I think I’ve used this only once.
3.If there were a smart device that would cook, I’d use it every day 😊
I share same concerns as You, but gladly lawgivers across the world (EU,USA,ect.) finally saw the problem of over gathering data by companies, and they are working to regulate that topic.
DeleteThe Internet of Things is great and is only going to change our lives for the good. Everything from fitness bands to internet connected fridges, smart thermostats to microchipped street lights or smoke detectors can all feed data back to the net and that's potentially a hugely powerful shift in the way that we live our lives.
ReplyDeleteSmart plugs. I have bought several smart plugs Tapo P100 in my home. I set them up using the Tapo app and added the smart skill of Google Assistant. And then what happened? I can use the simple voice commands to control the devices. Lie on the sofa playing games, say “Hey Google, turn off living room lamp.”, then the lamp is off! No need to leave sofa and really free my hands.
Plus, it supports the useful and smart features, including Remote Control, Away mode, and energy consume statistics. These mighty features really make my life easier and more secure.
Great to see another IoT user, and i'm glad you share my point of view.
DeleteIt is the firs time I've heard that it is called like that. And I think that in the future it will be a future and it is a really powerfull thing.
ReplyDeleteI purchased a cleaning XIAOMI robot since I have a dog who sheds a lot and I was tired of cleaning every few hours, now after I leave for work I turn it on, and come back to clean floors. :)
Now the cleaning robot is the only thing I need but I have not been very interested in it, so maybe there are any products which I would buy, but I don't know anything about them.
IOT are great! This is our future! Smart devices are present in our lives more and more often and more intensely. Of course I have smart devices. Besides the fact that I have an iPhone and a Mac with Siri, I also use the google assistant at home. A smart vacuum cleaner is connected to it and ... "hey google" vacuums it. Very comfortable. I also use voice activation for music. I also plan to buy smart bulbs and blinds. I would like to use the assistant to order purchases, but this option is not available yet.
ReplyDelete1. Wow, this is fascinating and scary at the same time in relation to the soldiers you mentioned. I can imagine a future with these devices. I just really have hope that some madman won't exploit IoT tech for the wrong purpose and destroy the planet with Iot its help.
ReplyDelete2. I haven't but I'm more and more seriously to buy. My friends have plant wall irrigation systems. Others have automatic doors, gates and shutters, vacuum radiators and even coffee maker. It must be very pleasant in the morning to make a coffee yourself from the bed by phone. Yummy!
3. Good question hm .. something that would know what I want to eat (even flavors from the most distant countries) and would make such a lunch, breakfast or dinner for me.
This is a very interesting topic that I would like to know more about (preferably using this technology hahah)! I think that in some homes it could be a whim, but surely advanced technology could help many people who need support in their daily activities.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any smart devices, but I would love to have smart lighting at home, because I like atmospheric light very much and usually only lamps are lit in my apartment after dark. I think that a device responsible for controlling electricity consumption would also be very useful. I would also not refuse a gift in the form of an intelligent vacuum cleaner or air purifier. ⭐️
1. I really like this concept of IoT. I'm a geek / nerd that type of guy so I like all new stuff like smart devices and so on. I heard that many people are scared about this idea. They trust that it can finish like Terminator story. For me it’s more like giving some extra functionalities and a bit of luxury to our everyday life.
ReplyDelete2. I’m starting to collect this kind of devices. I start with smart lights from Philips Hue, and I’m super happy. The next device I’m going to buy is the alexa speaker. I saw also “smart” fridge but it was incredibly expensive. However I think these kind of devices will be cheaper in the future.
3. The only think it comes to my mind is kettle. I remember that I want so many time when I woke I to just make some tea and don’t wait to boil water
I like the way IoT makes our lives easier. All these devices making our day better. The only thing that bothers me is that companies collect so much personal data aobut people.
ReplyDeleteI owe some smart devices. We all have I think. Smartphones, smartwatches collecting our pulses and exchanging data with phones. I also have air humidifier cooperating with my WiFi.
Recently, I have read about wireless phone charging. I do not meand technology we have right know. I mean charging like WiFi. Xiaomi is working on that kind of technology at the moment and as far as I know they lead in this case right now.
1. I think its our future, for sure. IoT can be seen everywhere nowadays. That kitchen from the video is soo awesome. Thats something I would like to have in my house. This kind of usage IoT in life suits me best I guess.
ReplyDelete2. Yes I have. Smart Vacuumcleaner, Smart TV, Thermomix and this kind of stuff. Im really big fun of technology supporting daily life.
3.Hmm Smart Teleport would be perfect, but I don't think that happen in my life hah
LoT is an amenity in life. I think with today's technology, there can be more and more interesting solutions to help in today's rushing life. Many devices can really help people with different problems.
ReplyDeleteThere is something out there, but not too much, because I like to do a lot of things myself and find patents to make my life easier.
I don't think there is a specific thing at this point. I would have to think about it for a long time. :D
I believe that the IoT is a very important component of technological progress. I think that in 5-10 years most people will have smart devices.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I do not have any smart devices. But I plan to buy a few things in the near future. My friend has a smart light at his home. First time when I saw it, I realized that I want the same. It is very convenient. You can adjust the brightness of the light, the color or even the blinking of the light. And you can setup it in your phone by a few touches. It seems very banal, but in fact it improves the atmosphere of your evenings.
In my opinion, it is a type of device that you’ll use all the time, not just occasionally.
ReplyDeleteI think Internet of Things is a great way of making our lives easier and more convenient. it is not only what surrounds us at the moment, but especially what will be our future. IoT has a lot to offer, but we need to keep in mind making only good use out of it.
No, I believe I do not own any smart devices at the moment.
I think it’s a difficult question, because right now we have so many smart devices to choose from – and I still do not own one :D so I guess I just do not have any special needs.
