Week 7: A Dose Of Adrenaline

A Dose Of Adrenaline
So far, you know a few facts about me, but you don’t know one crucial aspect of my life -
I am a motorcyclist. Now it’s time to share with you my story about it.
To tell the truth, my adventure with motorbikes started relatively late. No sooner than when I turned 18, I began to simply consider getting a drivers license for bikes. Actually, I’ve never had nothing to do with motorcycles even as a passenger. The first time I’ve ever had an actual contact with a motorbike was during the course, and, I must admit, I was amazed. Until I finished the entire course, I had my first own motorcycle standing in the garage. Well, maybe it wasn’t as “fast and furious” as I would have liked it to be, but it was 100% mine.

[Kawasaki ZZR250]
When one looks at its parameters, especially someone who knows absolutely nothing about motorbikes, it may appear “slow”. However, there is nothing more misleading; there are not many cars which could compete on the road. Unfortunately, I got used to its perforamance with the time and I’ve started lacking the feeling of excitement it gave me at the very beginning.
So, there was a time for a change. I decided to buy a new motorcycle.

[Kawasaki ZX6R]
I bought it, I sat on it, I started it and soon the feeling of excitement or rather – adrenaline – was back. It’s difficult to explain the thrill one gets when speeding up to 100km/h in 3.3sec and up to 200km/h in 8s. These numbers, at least for me, speak for themselves. One may get fast, but one may get even faster.
Nevertheless, the first drive, which was one-hour-long, ended up with me being sick. The fact of too high speed always results in such a way.
Now, I will show you a movie (not recorded by me). Please, don’t get me wrong; I am not any kind of a road hog.
Obviously, I am against such maneuvers on the roads, nevertheless it really entertains me to watch them on the special motorbike-shows or on the web.
What do you think about such maneuvers? Have you ever seen it live? Or maybe you even recorded something of the kind?
What are your experiences with motorcycles?

  1. Nice motorbike! My brother is a also a motorcycle-maniac so I have a slight idea of what you are talking about. He took me on ride few times on his newest one – it it a real adrenaline. I can ride smaller “motorbikes” (don’t know the english name but here’s an example of my firs one: http://retro.pewex.pl/475587 – it’s classic! :))) I grew up in the country it was a local tradition – almost everyone inherited one (or two) from parents and could ride them :) It was a duty!
In the move you posted I liked the tricks (and the music) – but they are dangerous, can’t deny that. I’m not worried e.g. for my brother when he’s riding his motorbike – he is one of the most reasonable and responsible people I know. But I’m worrying a bit for you when I read about your passion for speed... Enjoy the ride and take care!

    1. Thank you.
Romet - you're right, in Poland is a classic.
Reasonable riding a motorcycle is one of the most important things but you should also remember that there are other road users who may make a mistake and cause an accident.
Despite my passion for speed, I also ride sensibly.

  2. I have a few friends who share your passion. However, I always preferred a car. Driving a motorcycle surely provides adrenaline, which is why I sometimes think about buying a motorcycle. Though, I quickly give up my idea, as I find driving a car much more practical (except for situations when you're stuck in a traffic jam).

    1. You're right that the car is more practical of ride a motorcycle because it is only a specific season for ride a motorcycle and the car can ride up throughout the year.
In addition, the car is more secure.
So for primary means of transport I have a car and a motorcycle is mainly for pleasure.
What buying a motorcycle you're wondering?

  3. I love driving sport versions of cars, but it's too tempting to do it on polish roads, which is not very safe, so I know that I won't buy myself a very fast vehicle, for my own safety reasons. My friends (and I as well) are more like football freaks, so I can't tell much about this topic, besides those two :

    1. You're right that the Polish roads are dangerous but I think that when driving fast need to be careful everywhere, not only in Poland.
Funny gun in this first video :)

  4. Michał what is your opinion on Polish parliament’s new idea of letting all driving license holders to ride motorbikes which can reach a speed limit up to 100 km/h?

Of course, it is not a blistering speed and those motorbikes will be just a little bit more powerful than motor scooters, that's for sure. But what bothers me in this decree is that there is no single mention pertaining acquiring additional training and courses essential to drive those machines. Additional abilities will not be recquired even from those who have never used a motorbike of any kind. Considering the fact that it will enable many inexperianced people to move freerly on our roads makes me feel uncomofrtable. Because you know what - motor sccoters can kill as well so can something that drives faster, and 100 km/h is a speed threatening life. That is why for me it is a quite controversial proposal.

    1. I support your opinion.
I believe that this new idea was probably not the end of thought.
Polish roads and so is dangerous, there are a lot of accidents, and if this new idea comes into force, it's probably the number of accidents will increase.
And thus, the number of deaths also increase.

  5. I find it quite funny watching people on massive or sport motorbikes standing in traffic together with cars and buses.

On the other side, adrenaline argument is perfectly understandable. Ones life may appear boring, routine and repeatable ... but when you have an injection of adrenaline each day when you on a bike - it must change a bit the way you feel each day.

    1. I mostly see motorcycles that run between cars in traffic jams.
It is also one of the great things while driving a motorcycle - you do not have to stand in queues.
I, too, so I do and then I'm glad I did not waste my time standing in a traffic jam.
Daniel, have you ever had the pleasure to drive a motorcycle?

  6. One hell of a ride bro :-) gratz, I love bikes, ofc in my younger days I owned a bike it was a small engine scooter-bike hybrid, 250ccm, then I was totally in love with it. Nowadays I'm fighting myself not to buy a bike, because I know I am not responsible enough for such a ride, I would make it go to its power limit in the center of the city lolz. Yea you can say I am stupid. But if you are responsible enough I really feel jealous :-) stunts and stuff are a heavy shish, you must be a total freak to do that stuff and really born on the bike :-) take care dude! I wish you best

    1. It seems to me that a little bad read on my post.
I've never done such a thing that can be seen in videos of the post.
Too little, and I ride for little experience in order to make such things.
Of course I would like it to do but it takes a very long time and it is very risky.
That's why I use the bike more safely, if possible in the case of sports bikes safety say :)

  7. Don’t like bikes, don’t like that kind of fun. But if you like it, and you do such a thing on a special race track where only you can be damaged by that kind of bike riding than that is ok and I wish you good health. I have seen a lot of bikers that try to do tricks in streets with other cars, people and obstacles. It almost always ended badly.

    1. Of course, I do not do such things.
I agree with you 100% that such things should be done only on special tracks.
As written, doing such things on public roads may end badly.
And the worst thing in such cases is if you hurt an innocent person.

  8. Motorcycles. Brrr.... completely not my area of interests. I'm scared to drive anything what has only two wheels and is not a bike. I definitely, definitely prefer cars. I feel more comfortable and find much more fun with cars.
I also thnk that a lot of motorcyclists in Poland are very risky and can't understand that they are not the only ones on the road. I like when people have passion and I respect that but motorcycles are something that I can't understand. Maybe because I'm too much afraid of them.

    1. Bikes of this type have it to yourself that are fast and hence dangerous.
For people who do not have a passion for motorcycles can be hard to understand this passion.
But the car can also be dangerous to ride - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YUBjJiF0tE

  9. I have never tried riding on a motorbike myself, but I suppose it is a very exciting experience. To be honest, from my observations as a driver and pedestrian I take many motorcyclists drive recklessly. I think, that riding a motorbike needs double the attention and concentration, because bikers are usually less visible on the road, and a possible collision with another vehicle is more dangerous for themselves, then a similar car accident.

    1. Yes, riding a motorcycle is a very exciting but as you wrote requires double if not triple attention and concentration of the motorcyclist.

  10. Michał, you call 'starting late' when being 18 years of age? :) I have been into motorbike frenzy for the last 3 months, and now that I'm eligible to 600ccm license, I'm doing it right now (exam in abouth a month) on those new terms, which are harder to pass than before from what i heard at least. But after the first 15 hours of my motorcycling career - i can do all of them already, so I guess it's not that too hard.

From a total beginner's perspective, I have never ridden a motorbike before, and the first machine that i got my butt on was a Suzuki Gladius. I've heard lots of stories that it is not a recommended (crazy, in fact) approach and an easy way to get in trouble. But after one lowside fall and one parking lean I feel very comfortable on the bike and find it harder to get rid of lighter motorbikes habits. I had the opportunity to get on a 125 and 250, and these were dangerously easy to ride - I imagine how hard and surprising it would be to transfer from these to a >600ccm bike.

  11. I would advice not to ride a motorcycle in Poland because
(for now) infrastructure does not fulfil european safety standards. I had an accident on my 'bike' and was lucky but I would not count on that.
