CD Projekt
I think everyone in Poland knows what it is, but if not let me explain. CD Projekt is a Polish publisher, distributor and producer in the video game industry, with head quarters located in Warsaw and departments in Cracow and Los Angeles. First, they started with distributing video games which they were translating to polish language. In 2002 they created CD Projekt Red to produce video games. Their first video game published in 2007 was The Witcher (only on PC), which was created in cooperation with Andrzej Sapkowski, game of course is based on his books. In 2011 they continued with The Witcher 2 which was available not only on PC but also on Xbox 360. Their biggest success was releasing 3rd part of The Witcher in 2015 (available on all platforms PC, Ps4 and Xbox One).
Why The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was such a success?
One of the biggest things that people love about the game is character of Geralt, he is a character that is hard to find in any other big RPG games. As in the books he is a very likable and unique with his personality (badass with a good sense of humor and kinda good heart). Of course not only the main character is a reason to buy a game, the studio paid a lot of attention to the details in game. It succeeds splendidly at its main goals (world, characters, quests, stories, presentation) and ranges from great to respectable in everything else (like graphics, atmosphere, combat and exploration). A bit in numbers: The Witcher 3 was sold in over of 50 millions of copies. Even if the game was released in 2015 it had it second youth in 2020 after Netflix came out with their series. Sales in the first three months of 2020 was incredible. But enough about The Witcher.
Cyberpunk 2077
About Cyberpunk 2077 I’m going to say a bit less and more about sales. It is an open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification. Main character is V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one of a kind implant that is the key to immortality.
Pre-order of Cyberpunk 2077 started on 9th of June 2019, game really fast became number one of the bestsellers on the platform called Steam. Games debiut on the night 9-10 of December 2020 and on the Friday morning CD Projekt informed that estimated sales of the pre-order version topped the total sum of all expenses incurred in connection with the production of the game, as well as costs related to marketing and promotion. So the everything they spent to create a game paid off, now It is the question, how much CD Projekt is going to earn with this game since with that amazing sales after 2 nights of pre-order. And a fun fact, on of the Hollywood superstars to lend his voice in game, is the one and only Keanu Reeves, which is the face of a character in a game, he also promoted Cyberpunk 2077 at E3 for Xbox, which cased a fun scene during it.

Questions:
Do you enjoy playing video games?
Did you know what CD Projekt was?
Have you ever played any of their games, if yes what was your experience with it?
I love video games, but not all of them, and therefore, on the fingers of one hand, I could list the ones that really hooked me. I was playing The Witcher 2 but didn't make it through the whole game. On the other hand, with The Witcher 3, I played on the console and the game was great! It's one of my favorites so far (right after Red Dead Redemption II).
ReplyDeleteOf course, I know the CD and I have been following Cyberpunk 2077 on an ongoing basis recently because they have "little" trouble hahah.
The same was with me with The Witcher 2, but after finishing The Witcher 3 I tried 1st and 2nd, and I have to say ther were really fun too! :)
Delete1. Do you enjoy playing video games?
ReplyDeleteYes i like playing video games, I play many genres from strategy games like Total Wars series to rhythm games like Beat Saber. Currently jumped into the world of cyberpunk 2077 and I'am having a blast. Fortunately, in my case, the game does not seem to be completely bugged, and if something happens it is rather a minor bug that does not destroy the immersion too much.
2. Did you know what CD Projekt was?
Yes, I've been playing games made by them for a long time.
3. Have you ever played any of their games, if yes what was your experience with it?
I believe I played most of the games they produced apart from very old productions. The games they produce have a great storyline and quest design. I really appreciate how they create characters and how easy it is to bond with them. Their games often leave something behind. I can compare them to interactive books, which makes us much more attached to the characters and what is happening in a given world.
I'm jealous right now, my PC won't run cyberpunk right now. :( And props for playing Beat Saber, I tried it once and totally sucked in it. :)
DeleteIn a very general sense, I enjoy video games because they offer interactive entertainment. Sitting and watching a movie is great, but I often find it to be very boring. With video games I have control and I can be involved in some kind of action. I guess it makes me feel more accomplished because I’m actually doing something.I’m also pretty competitive and video games are a great platform for competition. It also doesn’t hurt anyone and there are no serious rewards or consequences for winning or losing. I like that it’s low stakes and much less stressful than real-world competition. Real-world competition often makes me feel like I need to be perfect, but with games, you can often rely on your team for backup, and if you have a bad game you can just start another one.
ReplyDeleteMostly I like video games for awesome stories. A lot of storytelling in games is really well thought out - of course, there are some cases where this is not true, but I usually try to get games with a good plot like The Witcher 3. I was playing The Witcher 3 2 years ago for half a year! But thank you for this article i can back to this video game again, beacuse i completely forgot about it.
Overall video games are a great hobby to have, albeit somewhat expensive at times.
That is great that after this article you might come back to The Witcher 3. And I have to say that my opinion about movies is the same, I would rather sit and play than sit and watch.
DeleteI play computer games every day, for as long as I can remember it was the best way to spend my free time. I really like all game genres except racing games. My favorites are: RPG, MMO, MOBA, RTS. Recently, I spend most of my time on League of Legends, Guild Wars 2 and World of Warcraft. Computer games are great for me in terms of competition and ranking - I don't like singleplayer games, although it used to be completely the opposite.
ReplyDeleteI know what CD Projekt was, I heard about them for the first time a long time ago, from my father actually, who has always been fascinated by the world of The Witcher, and it was this company that released the first game with this title.
I really only played two CD Project games myself. They were The Witcher 3 and GWENT: The Witcher Card Game. I finished the first title in full, it was an amazing adventure that I will never forget - in my opinion one of the best singleplayer games I've played right next to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I played Gwent during the beta, but I didn't like it.
I wish I could play computer games everyday now, adult life has It cons. When I was younger I also played League everyday, even joined sponsored team and played few LAN tournaments. Multiplayer games are great experience, I've met a lot of great people who are now my really good friends while playing League. :D
DeleteTo be honest I don't play that much, but there are times in which I do enjoy playing video games. When I was younger i used to spend all my free time playing The Sims. I prefer singleplayers, because I don't get any fun from competition or ranking system in multiplayers.
ReplyDeleteI've heard about CD Projekt, similar with others - during The Witcher success, but I've never played in any of their titles.
I remember times with The Sims, but I had most fun only with building homes rather than playing game itself. :)
DeleteAs a child, probably like everyone else, I played different games, but mostly on a computer, not consoles. The most beloved ones, which even now I can download and play to remember my childhood, are Need for Speed and Diablo, as well as Heroes of Might and Magic and The Lord of The Ring. In recent years I have played a lot in WoT, and this is probably all that I have played. And for several months or maybe half a year I did not turn on the WoT, since I don't have much time for that, because as a rule it takes several hours and if I have a free day, I don't really want to spend it on games. It makes not much sense to turn on the game for one hour, and as a rule, the game does not end after one hour хD

DeleteThat's the golden rule in playing games, usually it is one after another (in multiplayers) and in singleplayer games if the story is good it can suck you in for hours without even noticing how the time flies away. :D You also just reminded me about the Heroes of Might and Magic and I think I'm going to play it soon. ;D
DeleteDo you enjoy playing video games?
ReplyDeleteYes, I spend a lot of time playing them and I enjoy both storydriven singleplayer ones like multiplayer competitive.
Did you know what CD Projekt was?
Yes, I followed that company from almost beginning. It was a interesting to watch how company grew from local software distributor to a global compmany.
Have you ever played any of their games, if yes what was your experience with it?
No, but the only reason why, is that i don't like Witcher Universe ( although I am a fantasy books fan - I read all Witcher books but I didn't enjoy is as I'm enjoying other writers). I thought that I will play Cyberpunk 2077 , but as everyone knows, it has a lot of bugs and I will wait until major of them will be fixed
I find it kinda sad, that company spent so much time preparing Cyberpunk 2077, put so much into promotion of the game, postponed the game release and It turned out the way it is.
DeleteI am not such a pro player, but I played some games in the past. It depends on the age of a player, but I think all of us enjoys Mario, HoMM series or Quake III. If it comes to me, I have played Kangurek Kao :), Mafia: City of Lost Heaven and Max Payne series.
ReplyDeleteI am not familiar with CD Projekt. I know there is a company like this (and it's polish), but that is basically all I know.
I have not played any game from CD Projekt so I cannot say whether their games are good or bad.
Kangurek Kao is the best! :D
Delete1. Do you enjoy playing video games?
ReplyDeleteI love playing video games. I like to spend time and to relax. I mainly play fps games such as Call of Duty, which also helps me to forget about everyday problems. I consider playing video games to be my hobby.
2. Did you know what CD Projekt was?
Of course I know what CD Projekt was. I have played their games before and I always follow their actions in the gaming industry.
3. Have you ever played any of their games, if yes what was your experience with it?
I have played a lot of their games. Of course, I spent the most time with the last Witcher in which I spent an insane number of hours. In my opinion CD Projekt games are one of the best on the market.
I have to agree with your last opinion, the storyline in their games is one of the best ones, and i love that it is based on polish books. :)
DeleteUnfortunately I’m not a gamer but it may change soon as we are planning to buy PlayStation with my partner exactly because of Cyberpunk 2077. I only played few games and was never hooked on any of them for a long time. I enjoy playing Diablo III from time to time and Mortal Kombat on PS. So far I have never played any of CD Project games but I know the company. It was hard not to know about Cyberpunk release as the marketing was very agressive but in a good way. I like that they involved a lot of artist I like to create the world of Cyberpunk like Nina Kravitz and Grimes. Furthermore the music for the game is made partially by polish artist and it happens that I personally know two of them Chino and Eltron so I was also exited about the soundtrack. However I’ve heard there are some problems with the game and it was tested only on the newest version of PS so there are bugs, some objects won’t load and for older PS it’s not working as it should.
ReplyDeleteI love that you mentioned about the soundtrack! I've never played Diablo III. Almost every comment in this article reminded me about few old games I forgot! :) I hope that CD Projekt is going to fix the bugs soon with new updates!
DeleteI very much enjoy playing video games, I was into gaming since I was a child, I started playing on PC, but right now I play much more often on consoles. Unfortunately playing video games is very time consuming and right now I’m not able to play video games as much as I would like to. Of course I know CD Projekt Red, I have played every Witcher title, right now I’m playing Cyberpunk and I think it is a really good game despite all of the technical errors and bugs. In my opinion they should postpone releasing the game for base ps4 and xbox one.
ReplyDeleteThat is really in adult life that we sometimes have to give up on things that made us happy. :(
DeleteOf course, I enjoy playing video games! I play since I was a little kid haha 😊 Back then I preferred playing some PC games, however now I enjoy playing PS4 more.
ReplyDeleteI know CD Projekt almost since their beginnings. When I was little my parents were buying for me the CD-Action magazines, where I found all the news about CD Projekt and their achievements.
I incredibly enjoyed the Witcher Trilogy, the plot was excellent, original characters, the graphics fabulous! Cannot wait to play Cyberpunk 2077! Hoping it’ll be breathtaking haha
When I was young my dad had their magazine pile also in home, he bought I think everyone that was out. I am waiting to buy new PC or console to play Cyberpunk, but first I am waiting for major bug fix. :D
DeleteKeanu, made that presentation epic hahaha :D
Unfortunately im not a very “gaming person” but of course there was a time in my life when i got a video games in front of me, it was very pleasing because for let say few hours i could turn “myself off” and just enjoy what was going on a screen.
ReplyDeleteI think i’ve heard about this company few years ago. Of course after releasing witcher 3 everybody heard about them because it was one of the best export things poland come up in recent years.
I played the first witcher. I have to say that the whole fantasy world isn’t my favorite genre in art but i have to admit that the slovian spirit was very interesting in this production.
It is really fun playing this because it is based on our part of culture. I'm glad that as a country we have a big company we can be proud of and not embarrassed. :D
Delete1. Do you enjoy playing video games?
ReplyDeleteYes but just with others I don't like play alone I need to have friends close to me to talk and have fun together. For e.g. I love LA Noire so much <3
2. Did you know what CD Projekt was?
I heard about CD Projekt but I didn't known such about that. My friends talk a lot about it but I'm not joy it. I'm simple person who like board games and occasionally play console or computer
3. Have you ever played any of their games, if yes what was your experience with it?
No, just my ex played Witcher, so my experience was lonely nights :D - nah just joking wasn't that bad. I was enjoy watching when he played.
1. Yes, I'm big fan of video games. I play since I was 3 years old. My favourite types of games are RPG and FPS. The other kind of games I really interested in are MMO/RPG. I love the idea of world which is created by developer and players can meet with friends (or random people) there and experience an adventure together.
ReplyDelete2. Ofcourse I know CD Projekt well. 1st time when I heard about them was when I was 10 and father bought me a DVD movie. There was a logo of CDP on box after a year I heard about their 1st game the witcher.
3. I played all their games (except Thronebreaker) The Witcher series is for me one of the best games in game industry specially witcher 3! Now I'm playing Cyberpunk 2077 and it's stunning! Created world in this game is something fresh and new in games. 1st time I see such big and futuristic city in game. Quest and plot is so addictive. There are some bugs but it's not so big deal (I play on PC) as they say in media.
1. As a child I liked playing different games very much, usually they were Nitendo consoles, Atari and Pegasus, some of you should know them. Those cult times I loved very much and the games give me lot of fun :) Maybe it was caused by my age, but probably also by the climate of those cultic years. Unfortunately, nowadays I don't play computer games too often, there is only one game I play from time to time in the present day.
ReplyDelete2. Of course! I guess there is no one who doesn't know what CD Projekt is, especially now that the topic of Cyberpunk is repeated all the time.
3. Unfortunately I don't play such games, but I really like to watch someone play :) Usually it's my brother who loves to play such games. I enjoy watching, and when my brother is not here I watch gameplay on Youtube.
ReplyDeleteI used to play a lot on the computer and console. Now, sometimes I also like to play computer games for relaxation, but in the long run I consider it a waste of time.
About 6 years ago I worked at CD Projekcie so I know more or less what kind of company it is :)
This was the time when the witcher was released. There was quite a stir at the time in the company. After the premiere, there was a very good atmosphere because everyone celebrated the huge success of the Polish company.
I liked the game very much but I didn't finish it because I don't play as much as I used to. Unfortunately, in the case of cyberpunk, such a success could not be repeated. a pity because it was very close.
