Week 5 [14.12-20.12] Eco detergents

Christmas is coming so it’s time for gifts CLEANING

https://rootiko.com/diy-natural-cleaning-products/

We all know Christmas is a time when we can be with our families and friends, but before we do, we have to prepare our houses/flats for their visit. We all know Christmas cleaning is not easy at all. There is so much to do. We all have many kinds of detergents, some of them are cheap, some of them are not. Again, some work perfectly, others just can’t do the job.

Have you ever thought about making your own detergents? Some time ago I saw an article about eco cleaning products and detergents. I found out they are really easy to prepare, what is more, they are good for our health (we use only products harmless for human body) and of course they are much cheaper than those available in markets.

When it comes to me, I decided to make some natural detergents because of the fact that I am pregnant right now and I try to avoid all of chemical detergents.

I saw lots of recipes but I’ll write my favorites.

Bathroom cleaner – I love it because there is no need to wear gloves. It is cheap and it works - removes limescale very easily! Also you can choose the scent you like.

What do you need?

-0,5l of warm, boiled water

-2/3 glass of citric acid

-1/4 glass of salt

-essential oil (whatever you like)

-about 1,5 spoon of xanthan gum

-1 spoon of dish soap (eventually)

Pour salt and acid into warm water and stir until dissolved. Then add xanthan gum and blend it. Leave it for couple of minutes and check the density. It should be like a jelly. It is very tricky because xanthan gum changes its density after couple of minutes, so we should add this carefully. When we have a density we like, we should add essential oils. There are simply houndreds of them. One of the best (in terms of fighting with lethal bacterias) is a tea tree. If you do not like its scent, you can add whatever you want (lavender, orange, cinnamon, eucalyptus).

Extra fact! My blender was coloured after blending carrots with butter and I was unable to clean it properly for a while. Guess what happened after making bathroom cleaner? As you can imagine now I have a brand new, clean and shiny blender! 😊

Washing powder:

-1 glass of natural soapflakes

-1 glass of borax

-1 glass of baking soda

-½ glass of citric acid

-15 drops of essential oil you like

The secret is to make the powder properly. If you do not do this the right way, no one knows what will happen.

You have to put all the ingredients in one box and mix it, and it is done!

And Fabric Softener:

-200ml of warm (boiled) water

-2 spoons of citric acid

-10 drops of tea tree essential oil

This one is not that simple, before mixing all of the ingredients we somehow have to make water warm. One of my ideas is to boil it in a kettle. Another one is to use a pot instead of a kettle.

 Enjoy Guys 😊

  1. I think that ecological detergent substitutes are a great way not only for the environment and health, but also as a form of savings. I've tried such methods several times myself, but I don't use them on a daily basis. However, I try to buy such cleaning products, the composition of which is marked as eco.

I'm closer to ecological recipes related to beauty - masks, treatments for face, hair and body. I really like to use home scrubs, which are probably the simplest recipes. They can be modified in many ways to best suit the needs of the skin.

What I like about DIY is that you can always find something for yourself, something new and get inspired. Before the holiday season, I was looking for gift ideas because I wanted to give my loved ones something special.

    1. I also enjoy DIY gifts, it just means more to give someone such a present instead of buying one.

  3. I think eco detergents are better for our health and wallet. Of course they are natural, safe and effective. Secondly, they are better for the environment. I am fun of lemons. The lemons aren’t good fot adding flavour to recipes: they’re also very useful around the house. I always use lemons in the microwave. But using lemon juice to clean mirrors is genius! I will definitely be trying that next time. Thanks for the ideas of where they can be used elswhere!

What i think about DIY idea? It’s my great way to get rid of stress, especially after a hard day at work. DIY costs less money (most of the time). And it's not just because of the labor cost. When you know how to do things yourself, you understand the intricate details of what makes a high-priced product or service costly. Once you have this understanding, then you have the knowledge to choose what is important to you, saving money while getting something that will truly serve your needs. Also learning something new is fun and fulfilling. Completing a DIY project gives you one of the most satisfying feelings anyone can have. And when you are happy, you can avoid the spending temptations that would fill an emotional void.

  4. ecological cleaning products are a great alternative to chemicals. They are a great replacement and a way to live ecologically, I am glad that the awareness of this topic is growing. I use soda to clean everything. If something is more dirty, I clean it with an old toothbrush rather than a strong detergent.
Besides, ecological cleaning products are good for our skin. Years ago I got allergies on my hands - the dermatologist says it comes from the chemicals and it will keep coming back if I don't stop using it. Another reason to get rid of chlorine in life.

    1. Indeed, this is a nice fact that overall knowledge of ecology increases, not only in case of detergents but in many other areas (for example changes in automotive industry)

  5. 1 What do you think about eco detergents?
I think they are good thing for environment, especially now when we are at that point where our ecosystem can not recover. I'm more aware when I'm buying products and I try to buy only products based on natural ingredients.
2 Have you ever done anything like this yourself?
Nope. First of all I'm too lazy to do it myself, and second I try to use my time effectively - if something exist and I can buy it i just do :) I don't like idea to spend my time on some activities that are unnecessary.

3 What do you think about DIY idea at all?
If someone is low on a budget and have a lot of free time (and manual skills to do it), it could be beneficial for that person. But as I said above it's just not for me :)

    1. I see your way of thinking, that is understandable. Not everyone has time or skills to do something, it is always easier to get something. For me DIY is a perfect way of relaxation, you should try it :)

  6. 1 What do you think about eco detergents?
I think that eco-products in general are very useful because in the modern world there are many different factors and things that adversely affect our health. Therefore, I believe that it is advisable to minimize this impact as much as possible. This applies not only to eco detergents, but also to other things such as personal care products, cleaning products, and various food additives, food substitutes, etc.

2 Have you ever done anything like this yourself?
Sometimes, when I need to do something but there is no way to go and buy the appropriate thing, I can watch some lifehack how in a such way to do it or clean it etc. The last thing of this kind which I remember was cleaning the microwave with lemon.

3 What do you think about DIY idea at all?
I have a very positive opinion about this, although I very rarely do something like this myself, I would rather go to the store and just buy this or that product with an "eco" sticker.

  7. I’m happy that there are more and more eco products available and companies making chemicals offers alternatives to standard detergents which can be hazardous for us and for environment. I think it’s really cool that consumers become more conscious about bad influence of chemicals and that there are simple products like vinegar that everyone has in the kitchen, that can substitute chemicals. I try to avoid using standard cleaning products and choose eco detergents however my attempt to make DIY universal cleaner wasn’t successful. Maybe I will try your methods :)

    1. I agree it's perfect that eco products are available in mall, sometimes I don't have time to prepare by my own.

  8. 1. What do you think about eco detergents?

I believe that eco detergents are a great alternative to traditional cleaning stuff. They are mostly neutral o environment. I recommend a great series of eco cleaning detergents - Zielko, produced by a Polish manufacturer. These dtergents are not only made of natural ingredients, but also have an unusual scent (for example: mandaris&basil) unlike the 'traditional' ones.

    2. Have you ever done anything like this yourself?

Sometimes I make a paste with citric acid. It's similar to washing powder described in your article :) It works great in cleaning both the kitchen and bathroom.

    3. What do you think about DIY idea at all?

In my opinion, the DIY idea is great. We can do a lot of things with+ simple ingredients that are found in almost every home - just like in the recipes mentioned in the article.

    1. What do you think about eco detergents?
Answering to your question I think that it is a big step to implement healthy and also eco friendly habits.

    2. Have you ever done anything like this yourself?
Yeah, of course, before Christmas. Before cleaning together with mother and grandmother in the family home.

    3. What do you think about DIY idea at all?

  10. Many people believe that only chemical detergents can effectively deal with dirt. Meanwhile, there are much cheaper and more natural equivalents - most of them can be made by ourselves. I have not yet had time to make such detergents myself. I think I will soon be tempted to do it.

Although many well-known companies already decide to make natural detergents, but you know what we will do ourselves will be the best option for the environment. My first natural detergent I will do will be a washing powder. I often get allergies from powders and have to use the most delicate ones.

In the new year I will try. You know, the new year new me 😁

  11. First of all I should say that I really respect knowadays eco trend, but I can’t imagine that I would make this sort of «potion» every time when I want to wash dishes or do laundry 🙂 I’m more practical person, and spend a lot of time on daily cleaning stuff it’s not for me. I would either look for the way how to make things quicker. And if I have to choose between eco product or not eco, I would choose the product that works better.

  12. Many of my friends use them, but I don't have mine opinion on it since i've never tried it. For me it is easier to just go to store and buy one that I use for a long time now and it the one which is working 100%. :)
I think the DIY idea is great, but you need time to make it, and still have all the ingredients to mix, so that is too much for me since I'm a really lazy person.

  13. I like the idea of DIY products, but I’m not really a dexterous kind of person, it’s not really enjoyable for me to do things myself from scratch. I don’t really like housework so it’s a unpleasant duty for me and I try to do it as quickly as possible. I haven’t really tried any of the recipes that you mentioned, but I did tried to remove some stains using natural products. However I really like the ecological aspect, we shouldn’t use as much chemicals as we are using right now.

  14. I think eco detergents are great! We should use them more often, not only because they are good for the environment, but also for our health. Not to mention low costs of making them.
Unfortunately, I haven’t done anything like this myself because I don’t have much free time for this. However, I’m trying to make smart choices when it comes to shopping for detergents. I buy detergents in eco shops or sustainable stores. Great news, recently you can get some eco detergents at LIDL 😊 Those products are very efficient, and the prices are very reasonable too.
I think DYI ideas are splendid! I wish I had more free time to try something myself.

  15. 1. In my opinion it's good/healthy replacement for this chemical products which are selling in stores. In our life there is enough chemical detergents

    2. I created soap in high school for chemistry, it was for exam and don't remember did I used it after exam."

    3. I like idea of DIY, however I'm not good at this kind of creation or maybe I don't have time or just too lazy

  16. 1. Cool that you mention this topic! In my opinion eco-detergents are really cool! I know many friends and people from my family who use them day by day. Nowadays, in a world full of chemical additives, eco-detergents can really be great idea in our daily routine cleaning.

    2. I can say that yes, I am a person who tries to use relatively natural washing agents with the addition of aromatic oils. I also use vinegar for every wash to neutralize bacteria and viruses. I did this before virus-mania became fashionable :) I descale the kettle with citric acid and add baking soda and citrus peel, such as lemon peel and grapefruit peel to the dishwasher.

    3. I am a totally DIY fan! I love crafting, tinkering and creating stuff. I read a lot of blogs about it and I'm interested in tutorials on Youtube platform. I also try to work in this direction myself, but sometimes you need some advice from a professional, someone who has already done it.

  17. I have heard a lot about natural cleaning products but never had the opportunity to use them. I think it's a bit of laziness. I need to become more interested in this topic and apply it in my life. If it is as they say and they are effective substitutes for chemical products, I think it is a great idea. First, it gives you confidence in the substances contained in the natural product. Secondly, we do not support a business based on the production of plastic and harmful substances that end up in the environment.
