Well, I
know this is a subjective opinion stated in the title of the presentation, BUT
I would love to present my point of view on that great piece of musical art.
At the
beginning you should know that Pink Floyd’s history is coloured with a lot of
sad and difficult events and the most tragic one was the insanity of their
first band leader and vocalist – Syd Barett.
Pink Floyd
started their career in the middle of the 1960s and was initially formed by 3
students – Roger Waters, Nick Mason and Richard Wright from the Cambridge
University where they studied architecture and Syd Barrett who was already a devoted
painter and an artist. The four recorded together only a couple of singles and
one full album called „The Piper At the Gates of Dawn”. Then Syd had to leave because
of his mental illness caused probably by an LSD overdose. After that, David
Gilmour joined as a new guitarist and vocalist and Roger Waters with David got
the lead for the band.??
The music
Pink Floyd made was psychedelic, intense, complex and beautiful, but especially
after Syd’s departure the band really started to create purely unique and
original style – jazz and blues driven space rock with philosophical lyrics
talking about society, people, the world and going really deep into many
world’s problems.
The Dark Side of The Moon is the band’s 8th long play, concept album,
created at the peak of their performance and creativity, containing everything
they could put into a 43 minute shot.
It is a pure musical masterpiece so different and so consistent at the
same time. We travel through the depths of our minds and global issues with 10
tracks, creating one complete piece.
In my opinion there is no bad song, no bad sound or bad anything on that
album. I sincerely give it total 10/10 – it is a work of geniuses working
together, carrying their shared experiences, losses, victories, crazy times and
beautiful adventures.
That album actually was so good that it was the longest lasting album on
Billborad 200 for 741 weeks – that’s over 14 years! It is also the second bestselling
album in history with over 50 million copies sold. A major part of their
success were the cover designs for their albums created by Storm Thorgesson; the most famous one is the cover for The Dark
Side – in my opinion also the best cover design ever!
I think most of us know the beauty of songs like „Money”, „Time” or „Us
and Them”, but as a matter of fact if you like one of these, you have to give
the full album a listen.
The funniest part I think is that the band thought they would never do
any better, that it was their complete work. Fortunately it was followed by
„Wish You Were Here”, „Animals” and the famous rock opera „The Wall” so they
really had more to say!

1. Do you agree with me? If not what’s the best album of history in your opinion? Share your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a Pink Floyd's fan, so I cannot rate if it is the best album in their history. I know few songs of them, but it's not enough to make such an assessment.
2. What do you value the most in music and musical pieces like songs or albums?
It depends on my mood, but also I'm not a big music fan, so mostly I am just listening to that what is served to me on the radio. Even so, half of the tracks are flying somewhere next to me :)
In almost every genre I can find something catchy for me.
3. Is there any album or song you truly sincerely hate? If yes then why do you hate it?
I don't like some extremes, like hard metal or hip hop music etc. But when there is any normal song of these species then I can listen it.

1. Do you agree with me? If not what’s the best album of history in your opinion? Share your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteThat kind of music may be fine for some people, but it's not my cup of tea. As to best album in history? I dont really have one as well I have songs i like as well as genres(mostly EDM, DnB, Dubstep, Chillstep - that kind of stuff).
2. What do you value the most in music and musical pieces like songs or albums?
The beat is of upmost importance for me, no lyrics can help a song if beat is bad. So Beat comes 1st - if beat is good i dont mind bad lyrics.
3. Is there any album or song you truly sincerely hate? If yes then why do you hate it?
I just hate Crazy Frog types of songs or that one song in german about the crocodile. I find it very irritating and just hearing it triggers me.

1. Do you agree with me? If not what's the best album of history in your opinion? Share your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion it is not the best abum in history, simply because Pink Floyd is not my favorite band. After all, I love the song Wish You were Here and We do not need no education. I really like to watch their videos - have a certain depth and shadow of mystery. Well done!
2. What do you value the most in music and musical pieces like songs or albums?
An important value for me in music is the melody, the text does not play an important role for me, because I like the story itself lay the melody. I choose music to suit your mood:
Jazz - when you want to relax
Pop and Rap - when I'm ready for action
I'd love to be distinguished George Michael - his all albums i truely love, and each of his song for me is brilliant.

I hate pseudo-contractors, who can not sing or do anything with the music industry for example. Popek. It is famous only - because he is famous. Something like sing - but this is at a very low level.

1. Do you agree with me? If not what’s the best album of history in your opinion? Share your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteI really like Pink Floyd music but I am not such a big fan as you. I am a big fan of Serj Tankian creativity and I could make a similar presentation about him. For me he has the best albums, but it is only a matter of taste.
2. What do you value the most in music and musical pieces like songs or albums?
I think that the most valuable feature is the uniqueness. Only after hearing the songs I can tell you if it appealed to me or not.
3. Is there any album or song you truly sincerely hate? If yes then why do you hate it?
I think that I don’t have songs or albums that I hate. If I hear something that is impossible for me to listen, I immediately turn it off.
1. Do you agree with me? If not what’s the best album of history in your opinion? Share your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteI think it's quite good but not the best one. Actually I think that noone can say about any album that it's "the best" one. Which I like? I suppose "Thriller" by Micheal Jackson is great.
2. What do you value the most in music and musical pieces like songs or albums?
It depends. When I'm listening to Polish music I think that lyrics are most important to me. When I'm working I listen to music with good "flow" so I can concentrate. And so on.
3. Is there any album or song you truly sincerely hate? If yes then why do you hate it?
Nah, not really. I don't like disco-polo if we're talking about genre of music.
1. Personally I’m not a big fan of a Pink Floyd. I prefer listen to more modern bands like Papa Roach, Hollywood Undead or Rammstein. As it goes to Rammstein there will be a concert this August: http://www.eventim.pl/capital-of-rock-bilety.html?affiliate=PLE&doc=artistPages/tickets&fun=artist&action=tickets&kuid=520779. Just saying :D
ReplyDelete2. I don’t have anything special which I value the most in music. I like rock and metal music so naturally I prefer tracks from this genre.
3. I can’t recollect any albums that I hate. If I don’t like some music I just don’t listen to it :D Although, there is one track from Bullet for my vallentine band that I don’t like but Spotify doesn’t care about it and keep playing me that song. But I don’t remember the name of it.
1. Do you agree with me? If not what’s the best album of history in your opinion? Share your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I was not able to hear the entire album but the song Time is probably known to everyone. A good piece of rock, but it is hard to say that this particular album is the best in the world because there are so many great albums.
2. What do you value the most in music and musical pieces like songs or albums?
As for me melody, vocals, solos, text. If all these elements are at very high level, we can say that the album or song is great.
3. Is there any album or song you truly sincerely hate? If yes then why do you hate it?
Just as I do not have the album, which truly I love that I do not have an album which I hate. There are songs that I just do not like but that's all I have for them, not any particular emotional hatred.
1. Abbey Road. It showed the way The Beatles went to became a great rock'n'roll band and how much potential they had to create extraordinary music as well.
ReplyDelete2. I thinks it's mostly up to how the music makes feel. When I listen to music, I do it to feel relaxed, so the genre doesn't matter. Making me feel relaxed it's what I look for in music.
3. Usually, it's not about hating a particular band but disliking their sound. I can't say I hate a specific album, because if I don't the sound of the band I will not listen to their albums. I know it's petty to base one's opinions just on songs you can listen to on the radio, but I don't know a name of a single Nickelback album and I'm happy with that.
Being a huge Pink Floyd fan myself I found reading this article to be a great pleasure (especielly since it was so well written- congrats :) ). As to your questions:
ReplyDelete1) As you've probably guessed I just cannot disagree
2 and 3) I value their depth and complexity. I believe that music has so much to offer one should not limit him or herself to one or two genres. Led by this belief I always try to see the work of the artist and the message behind a given song or album. So even when at times I find certain piece to be unbearable I try not to let my impression could my judgement so I can experience anything there is to be experienced there, thus I guess I don't really hate any piece of music. I might just no like it as much as the other ones :)
1. Do you agree with me? If not what’s the best album of history in your opinion? Share your thoughts!

2. What do you value the most in music and musical pieces like songs or albums?
Music is power, it's music version of ours memories, everyone has personalized list of songs, each of them is a memory, a moment of our lives. Music can connect generation. My uncle, which was my mentor of "good music", show me, his fav music.
This inspires me to get to know these bands more.
3. Is there any album or song you truly sincerely hate? If yes then why do you hate it?
Yes it's Madaryna song called "Everynight" it is really horrible. She nozzles, instead of singing.
